Yeah, strange point to make. She was outta there as soon as she got the meds.

Um, no. She probably doesn't know how to do that anyway.

Make him field dress the deer instead listening to him monologue about how he's a savior and can save her too. What did she get out of listening to him beat his chest about how awesome him and his starving community are.

The other dude had to hike 4 miles roundtrip. That's plenty of time to hold David at gunpoint and say, "here's a knife, get busy."

Instead of leaving with drugs and half the meat (after previously showing her and Joel had little-to-no food left) she departed with no food.

And, as a hunter, generally you want to field dress an animal as soon as you can to avoid risk of the meat spoiling. I get that they're in the cold and clearly not picky about what they eat...but it makes no sense to sit around talking while rigor mortis sets in.

You want to make sure you cook it Al Dente, otherwise it will get mushy when mixed in with the stew.

She also thought wiping her blood on the kid would heal him. I don't think she is some experienced hunter and survivalist. She is supposed to be a kid. She just shot the rifle for the first time pretty recent to this stuff.

What makes you think she has any experience in any of this?

She's a scared kid who isn't thinking straight.

She had the gun but was scared ****less and he still had control of the whole situation.

And he didn't even field dress the deer.

But does it matter in sub freezing temps?

it was really stupid of her to not have him field dress.

but much more stupid to not think that they would come back and sneak up behind her rather than just doing what she wanted.

and she is not holding the rifle well, which i would think anyone would know how to do in a post apocalyptic world. that said, maybe her training was all urban institutional and so was not used to a deer rifle fitted for a much bigger person.

but, the whole point is, she isnt very smart, and is just a kid, and isnt very experienced. whatever, it all worked ok for me.

she was really incredibly stupid in the mall too

and dumb going into that hole in the stash store.

even dumber with the blood/sam/infected/go to sleep with a zombie move.

teenagers still doing really dumb *****.. she'd been really lucky in post apocalypse to that point.

anyway, if you buy into the concept that teenagers raised by institutions are INCREDIBLY ****ING STUPID, then she's dead on with this show.

however, breaking the dudes fingers was a ballsy 'i'm going to die' move, but good for her.

using the 'you're infected' distraction to get the cleaver into that guy and get away was a cool move.

so the longer she is with humans and not government, the smarter she'll get, hopefully.

Great episode! Probably my first or second favorite so far. Loved Ellie.

Not ashamed to say but I loved the brutality of this episode and how it started out low…killing a deer, putting a syringe in a wound, then built…Joel torturing and killing those two guys…then the crescendo of Ellie breaking fingers, cleaver to the neck, and going ape**** stabbing David like 35 times…all this against the backdrop of a group resorting to cannibalism.

Ellie was incredible this episode. I know she's been annoying at times, but a lot of that showed her innocence. And now we see that juxtaposed against a little girl pushed to her absolute limits to, first, take care of her and Joel, and then literally fight for her life.

The ending was touching and, as a dad, "baby girl" totally got me in the feels.

Minor annoyances:
- she said they could have half the deer but gave them all of it.
- I realize it is cold, but the deer sits for hours outside with no one making any attempt to gut it.
- Joel miraculously gains all his strength back just in time to take out 3 guys. Lol

The deal for half of the deer changed as soon as the pastor revealed Joel killed one of theirs and it was pretty obvious from his tone and demeanor that they meant to find him and kill him. I gave Ellie serious kudos there. she realized this was not going to end in peaceful harmony and she just wanted the medicine for Joel. She wasn't sticking around to get half the deer and deal with that while trying to vacate quickly.

Typically a deer is hung for 2-4 days at 32-42 degrees before it is processed. The temps they were in were probably perfect. And they did not have anything with them to process it anyway. They intended to take it back to their meat processing room.

A little bit of just in time healing there with Joel sure. But it's not like he did much especially with the first guy. He hid and jumped him and stabbed him in the neck with a blade. Likewise he tried to surprise the next guy as well and hit him with a gun stock to knock him out. He had the element of surprise in both cases. We don't know about the third guy.

I did as well as it would stop anyone in their tracks ESPECIALLY after seeing the telltale marks on her arm. It was the perfect distraction for the preacher to take a step back and for the other guy to stop holding her down to give her access to the cleaver.

Lol. You seem to be taking this personally or way too seriously. And that's weird to me. It's a bizarre hill to die on for either of us.

We know she has already killed someone who attacked Joel. We also know she just took down a deer from 75-100 yards. We know she beat the **** out of some other kid when she was in the FEDRA camp. She didn't back down from Marlene when she was chained up either. She's a kid, but she's not a braindead, meek, pitiful, helpless idiot that can't defend herself - as evidenced by the end of the episode.

If those two guys were going to kill her, don't you think they would have done it when they were 1)armed and 2)outmanned her?

If you want to defend a fictional character, fine. I simply said she could have done something differently. And that point is valid. She could have. They chose to write it differently and that's fine too.

I said it was a minor annoyance for me. Far and away I loved the episode.

The blurred/blood splattered camera was a good touch. The actress also did an amazing job of showing how much primal fear, anger and just raw emotion was being expelled with every swing.

And then Joel coming a full 180 from "you're not my daughter" to "baby girl" was a great cherry on top.

Yup. He's done a TON of voice acting, but I don't know that he's ever done any actual acting. Surprised he wasn't a clicker or dead body or something.

It is a discussion. I brought an entirely plausible alternative that someone, anyone could have done in a similar situation. You brought a straw man argument that she's a scared kid incapable of thinking "maybe I can get this guy to give me food AND medicine".
