The only thing I questioned from the episode was how did the women and children not know about the cannibalism? There is literally nothing to do in the dead of winter for those kids and they didn't snoop around and find the meat locker?AlaskanAg99 said:

I get not asking too many questions when you're starving but you would think one of the men would confide in his wife/partner at some point so that was strange.
I guess the iron fist rule was so harsh they dared not to go investigate anything...like gun shots and the warehouse literally ablaze.
This one really made me have to stretch hard for my suspension of disbelief.

For a long time I was always surprised by the amount of denial rational people are capable of. I finally learned to stop being surprised.

i also thought there was a possibility of the slaughterhouse being outside of "town" and no one is allowed to leave "city limits" without permission.

I've figured out my biggest (albeit trivial) suspension-of-disbelief gripe.
Everyone's gear is completely pristine. I think except for Tess early on, how TF does everyone have coats, beanies, jeans, boots, even firearms that look like they were pulled off of a Cabela's shelf just last night? No wear, no tear, no scuffs or scrapes. Nothing.
I grilled chicken thighs last night and accidentally got coal marks on my t-shirt. Everyone in TLOU looks like they just got done with a Patagonia F/W 2023 shoot.

I didn't realize there were 3 in the series. The first book is great, although I'm only about halfway through. I think I packed it up during a move and just forgot to unpack and keep reading (I can be bad about that). Need to start finishing it.
Would be an incredible and terrifying movie or show if you did it right. Mankind, when scared and desperate, is much more terrifying than any beast or zombie imo.

It's cold and windy out. Why exert the effort and burn calories you don't have unless necessary?
Gunshots were inside and empty building with cinder block walls, which to me indicates a basement since the windows were higher up. By the time the sound gets to neighboring buildings it may have not been noticeable, along with the wind blowing hard.
Inside the building was on fire, strong winds and with everyone Bing inside, it may go unnoticed for awhile. There were only 20-30 people during the dining scene. Joel killed 3 and Ellie killed 2 of the expedition team...so that doesn't leave many men roaming about.
I put all this in the plausible category.

Also, every house has a wood burning fireplace going 24/7. Probably nothing weird about smoke coming from a building.

But I agree it's a petty thing compared to the plot holes etc in many other shows. I might honestly get sick of everyone looking like dirty diseased hobos after a while lol.
Guess not being a fan of the game didn't help. I made it about two episodes and it felt like little more than yet another post apocalyptic zombie show with little behind it. If someone can tell me it gets a real set of plot lines other than "avoid the flesh eater" maybe I will give it another go.
To me, the shroombies are only a very small part of it, overall. Definitely not most peoples' first concern throughout most of the show. They honestly hardly make an appearance overall and were far more prevalent in eps 1 and 2 when the outbreak happened and when the main characters were trying to get out of the cities.oragator said:

This is a platonic love story of over coming loss in a post apolyptic world environment.
The only thing I can say is it's not a zombie show. The show happens to contain zombie-like monsters (done up a little more creatively than traditional zombies IMO), but that's not what it's about.
One Second After has had more lasting impact on my brain that any other "scary" book ever has. I'll find myself on business trips 2-3 hours from my home and asking: what if it happened right now? Would I be able to get back? How long would it take? Would my family make it until I get back? My goal would be to get to my place that's 90 miles from me but how do I get a family of 6 from here to there? How fast would I realize what's happening and how fast could I get on the move?
As this episode illustrates: humans are your greatest risk (especially in the short term) in situations like these. For the most part, everyone would have different priorities and levels of desperation. That makes for a high level of danger for everyone involved.

Same for me...it taught me to have a certain plan and keep it in the back of my mind...although if it knocked out all electronics, and thus all modern automobiles, my fam would pretty much be effed without some type of lucky head start out of the city and towards east TX. I think it could be an awesome one season HBO deal, or at most MAYBE two seasons. The hardest part would be illustrating the weight loss. I've never read the other books in the series primarily because I don't think they could conjure up the same feelings that the first book generated (it stands just fine on its own), so I'm not sure I'd want it to go much further but I think it would make an awesome limited series.

I hope so. I'll never forget how pumped I was to see a trailer for the movie based on my favorite fictional book ever (No Country), having no clue a movie was even in the works. I would have a similar giddiness with this one.

Another fan of One Second After here (plan to read the others soon). I would also love to see a series/mini-series like that done since the primary issues at that point are lack of resources to support the current population size.
A related one is the Change/Emberverse series by SM Stirling. Physical laws related to electricity, firearms (gunpowder doesn't burn quickly), etc. all just change (mostly stop working) in an instant. The original trilogy starting with Dies the Fire is the best part. Read the next part of the series (some great, some bad). Never read the third part of the series.
