Is there no route around the big cities period though? If it was me, I wouldn't be caught within 30 miles of an urban center if I could prevent it. I'm imagining a group like Joel and Ellie trying to cross through Dallas. Dallas and Fort Worth downtowns could both be completely avoided with a little maneuvering around. Why not the same for KC? Just seems like going into any urban downtown is just asking for trouble, like we saw.
This. aTmag is assuming she came to be the leader through performance in battle. There was clearly an uprising at some point, so it would make more sense that she was involved in that movement rather than being "elected" after proving herself in battle. For all we know, the other leaders were killed, and she stepped up after. This is the exact kind of info we should find out soon, including whether she is competent as a leader or about to drown.BenFiasco14 said:

All the outrage is a bit premature right now. She got to her position somehow and I'm sure we'll find out. There are countless things that could be going on here.
I really enjoyed the episode.

It's also not a given that all soldiers/warriors would want to be the leader. For some, they just play their role and leave the headache of leadership to someone else.

My assumption is based on the environment. We aren't talking about prime minister of a Scandinavian country here. I've heard the directors are planning on showing her winning leadership by an arm wrestling competition, to trick viewers into thinking women are stronger than men.

And right after she wins the arm wrestling competition, she leans over and kisses her lesbian wife in a wheelchair who also happens to be a transgender Muslim who has held onto their faith throughout the apocalypse.

Regarding Ellie saying that wasn't the first time she hurt someone, are we assuming she was talking about when she stabbed the zombie in the beginning of episode 3? Or do y'all think she had an incident prior to that?

It sounded like they ratted out her brother to FEDRA based on the interrogation scene with the doctor. Her motivation seems to be 100% driven by vengeance.

What? Joel never saw her stab anyone. She was completely alone in the basement with the zombie.

Seems kind of weird they wouldn't have gotten around to cleaning out the mall over the decades since it was in the QZ. Just board it up and hope no one goes in and nothing comes out.
Totally agree with this. For me, it's not having a woman in the role. It's the woman they chose. Maybe they'll have an explanation later, but as it is right now, it doesn't appear to be great casting. Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, I'd buy it.M.C. From her voice to the way she walks/carries herself...like, I'm hardly a gun expert but even the way she threatened the Doctor with a gun seemed farcical. It has nothing to do with her being a woman, it's just about her playing this 'mustache twirling' ruthless villain that is just so absurd for the actor. There's no weight behind her. Would we be having this discussion of Terminator 2 Linda Hamilton was playing the role?
I never once doubted Marlene as the leader of the Fireflies. Or Tess as the alpha in Joel/smuggling operation. So to me, it has nothing to do with her gender, just her overall...aesthetic in contrast to the role.
which is completely acceptable...and i agree with. But this is unfortunately not the route/reasoning certain people chose.AustinAg2K said:Totally agree with this. There's a pretty easy way to comprehend how someone in her position could become the leader of a revolutionary force. All these strong, strapping men? Its been 10 years since the fall and who knows how long they battled FEDRA at the QZs. Whose to say she was the first leader? if anything, the smart play is to let the cavalier people fight the early, tough battles and take over in a power vacuum. Not to mention, there are plenty of examples of women leading a revolutionary force, in both battle or symbolism.
