Full transparency: I am a non-gamer who knows SOME things about the game, but not a lot. I've been reading both threads and will continue to do so. (The other thread has been good with spoiler tags.)

But I will stop posting in this thread if you guys are dead set on people knowing absolutely zero about the games in here.
Did you read the first post, or the title of the thread?

Reading this thread, it'll be funny if the show turns out to have no twists and turns whatsoever, and is just a boring hack'n slash zombie machete fest with Oberyn Martell murdering his way through various post apocalyptic North American locales.

That being said, thanks everyone for keeping the spoilers away, and thank you gamers in advance for not posting here. I, like the others, know absolutely zilch about this game and would like to keep it that way as there aren't much else to watch these days.

The opening scene where the doctor examined the body really gave me the creeps. I didn't know what the hell was about to happen. Sheeeesh.

Her reaction to being told there were still 14 people from the grain factory missing was fantastic acting. You could feel that she knew it was already over and was terrified.

I really hope they continue to show pre-infection scenes. After the first episode jumped 20 years, I didn't think we would get to see anything prior. I feel like we may not get anymore because they touched on the origin in Indonesia, but would like some more insight also into how Joel ended up in Boston.

it was such an effective scene. the sense of dread when she says there is no cure or vaccine, and the only hope they have is to bomb a city of millions of people.

both of the cold opens so far have been excellent.

Agreed, they added exposition in such a perfect way, which is incredibly difficult to do. Informative and also just straight up dreadful. They are enhancing the story, not taking away from anything, they've put so much care into this project. The first episode cold open addresses what the worst case scenario is. The second episode is that worst case scenario coming to fruition and there being no solution short of total destruction. Other possibilities for the rest of the season I'm assuming include how swiftly a populace can be overtaken, how no one in power acted swiftly or severely enough, and that the decision being made to bomb our own cities and that it was too late to matter. I think episode three is showing everything hitting the fan.

Right there with you...when she put her fingers in her mouth I was certain they would clamp shut and it was going to get ugly real fast. They definitely are great at creating tension.

Also, so far it's EARNED tension.

One of the things that bugged me about TWD (among MANY) was the way they would cheat their audience to create tension.

For instance, when Glenn was trapped under the dumpster surrounded by zombies and then miraculously escapes (super easy, barely an inconvenience). After a while it became white noise and why myself and millions other eventually tuned out.

One thing HBO typically does well is have a series plan. Landing doesn't always stick (looking at you GOT), but there is one.

Walking Dead was the cow they literally milked to death. I don't see Last of Us being that way. I'm guessing 3-4 seasons max.

I knew nothing about this game before, let alone that there were 2. I had assumed going in this was a one and done, but is the general thought TLOU will be multi season?

There are only two games. There is one DLC which is a quick add-on game, but I'm pretty sure the DLC content will be rolled into S1 of the TV show based on all of the previews HBO showed prior to the premiere.

Regarding the game series, I would be surprised if there wasn't a third one that gets green lit because of how successful everything is right now.

They've hinted that the 2nd game would be adapted into 2 seasons.

I don't think there is any sort of bombing that could stop this sort of thing. Not even nukes. A woman survived Hiroshima from only 300m away. If you are in the "shade" you got a decent chance. I would think a fungus would be even more resilient to that.

There are also neutron bombs that blast the area with a crap ton of radiation (with a small explosion). They supposedly leave buildings and crap alone. I am not very familiar with those. I've heard that you explode them in the air and it blasts a desired section of ground with radiation sorta like a radiation camera. Anything within the "picture frame" will die. I imagine it's not a pleasant death. The show writers could assume that works on fungi and use that as some sort of plot device. Like have the USG neutron blast areas that are heavily infected or something. Or, maybe have it be something that makes the fungus worse.

Holy s**t. An actual comment about the latest episode.

Had to scroll quite a bit to get to that.

I agree and I actually enjoy that method of storytelling. Keeps you engaged with what's going on while slowly feeding you the backstory.

Few things gross me out as much as fungi so this show has plenty of horror for me.

I didn't play much of the game (gasp I mentioned the game!) so I dont know where the story takes us, but I'm interested to see which cities they visit on their journey out west. It'll be cool to see their depiction of different cities in ruins like they did for Boston. In a very haunting way.

They've made clear in the show they're heading out west in search of bro Tommy. That's why they needed a truck/supplies, etc.

I've never even seen the game or read anything about it.

When Joel went and cut the line to see the radio message guy, didn't that guy literally show him a map of Montana or somewhere where the radio tower was that Tommy was at? I assumed that's where they were heading? Not sure what all the fuss on this thread is about

I knew the initial plan was to go west based on that map they looked at, but I assumed based on what we've seen that those plans were thrown out the window now that it's just him and the girl. Glad to know I lost any element of mystery there.

I also had the impression they were going FAR west. Like many states away. In EP1, they pulled out a map and showed him looking far west of Boston (like the Great Lakes and whatnot). I can't quite remember, but I think that guy circled a radio tower that was like central CONUS.

Lol, aaaaand after less than 24 hrs of harmony people are at each others throats again. Who didn't see this coming?

Honestly, IMO the show made it abundantly clear that Tess and Joel wanted to leave Boston even before meeting Ellie. Joel was searching for info on where Tommy was. He was told that Tommy was out west and was even planning the trip on a map. Then Ellie tells Joel and Tess that the Fireflies have doctors out West working on a cure and that's where she's supposed to be headed. Somebody mentioning "they're going far west" on this thread after Episode 2 is NOT a "gamer spoiler".
Rudyjax
How long do you want to ignore this user?

We knew that was the intent. We didn't know they even did it or succeeded doing it.

Is it a huge spoiler? No. Is it even a spoiler? Probably not.

But anytime someone brings up the game going to post in a similar way. So if you don't want to see me posting about it, don't post about things you know from the game.
FL_Ag1998
How long do you want to ignore this user?

In other words no discussion about assumptions easily inferred directly from the episodes just watched? It's a very easily inferred assumption that they'll be leaving Boston based on what's happened so far.

Come on, loosen up just a little bit. Now some of you are so hyper aware of potential spoilers from gamers that you refuse to allow any discussion about future possibilities based on what's been presented in the show.

If this show was original IP and not from already established source material then nobody would view what Taco posted as a spoiler at all.
Teddy Perkins
How long do you want to ignore this user?

It's come to the point that this thread is draining life from the show and it's clear that show-related discussion just isn't going to be possible. We didn't have this issue with GoT.
