Anyway, wild pitch aside, Stanford lost it by not scoring after the 6th. 5 runs isn't enough in a CWS losers bracket game this deep, especially all scored in the first 6 innings. Huge team loss. Vandy overcame their mistakes; Stanford didn't.

#1 with zero hesitation for me. Last thing NC State wants is a game 2 and all the extra pressure of an elimination game.

Play to win on Friday.

If he goes on Friday, the #1 should still be available for the Championship Series, though possibly not until a winner-take-all third game.

If the ace goes in a must-win game against Vandy on Saturday, he's probably done for the CWS, at least when it comes to a full start.

Well, consider this....

Highfill looked mighty good against Vanderbilt on Monday, allowing only 2 hits in 7.1 innings. I'd almost rather have him available than their #1, though I guess Vandy hitters have seen him recently and that comes into play.

I've seen countless coaches save their pitching for the next game, then watch the next game from the stands. I want to win the game I'm playing.

I've seen holding back work when the opponent is scraping the bottom of the barrel for their pitching.

You guys are overthinking NCSt's pitching position. Not saying you're wrong with who to go with, but its mandatory that they score 4-6 runs to win. That or more, they should win and it shouldn't matter who they throw. If they don't score 4, they probably won't win. Either game that is.

I know the thought process is "you can control pitching..." more than hitting but its not mutually exclusive. The game plan at the plate needs to be whatever they think will disrupt Vandy pitching and make them uncomfortable, whether it is take pitches, swing early, hit and run, just run, bunt, or even stick your hand out, catch the pitch and then hit it out of the park Kelly Lee style. Whatever Vandy isn't expecting, I'd say.
