Congrats to Boyd Nation. Used to spend many hours on his website. He was at State during the days of Thunder and Lightning.

He must have felt the same way in '85 that I did in '93.

From everything I have personally encountered over the last 25-30 years, Mississippi State has always had an extremely supportive fanbase for their baseball teams. Whenever they came to play or for Regionals they had great fans. To me they made the trip to Omaha to see their boys hopefully be the one team that finally took it all, National Champions.

one interesting thing about this State team...

they won the title with a combination of great hitting and good pitching.

which is kind of the opposite formula. Normally it's great pitching and timely hitting.

in their 13-game postseason run...State's opponents' runs scored per game were:

4, 4, 5, 8, 9, 7, 1, 5, 8, 3, 8, 2, 0 ---- about 5 runs per game average.

the key game was their CWS opener. State got great pitching in that game...when they really needed it...to win 2-1

They aren't counting non-ncaa awarded titles so GT one other one is in tennis from 2007. Their football titles are non-AP

Ole Miss got its first legitimate national championship this year in women's golf. They claim three in football (1959, 1960, and 1962), but those are questionable at best as they were 2nd or 3rd in both the AP and coaches' polls each time.

Thank you, jkag89, for creating this thread. Because I don't have cable, I did not get to watch any of the College World Series games. I was only able to catch some of the highlights. Also, I have been busy keeping up with the NBA playoffs and the MLB regular season. You have made it easier for me to follow the College World Series. I admire and appreciate your time and dedication to not only Texas A&M baseball, but all of college baseball. I am happy for Mississippi State to win their first College World Series title in school history.
