If it was me, I'd play whatever formation puts my best players on the field (after accounting for injuries and red cards). Play to your strengths and not to his....then roll the dice and see what happens.
Agree with Dre. When I started my team, I tried to be fancy with my formations and match-ups on a game to game basis. There were some good things I learned from it, but mostly I would have been better off just playing my squad in their best lineup.
Now that I've been there for a couple of seasons, I stick to my best formation (and buy players to match it) for the most part. One thing you might try to do though is switch up your FCs and DCs to get favorable match ups with theirs. Example: put your best DC on their best striker or your fastest FC on their slowest DC's side.

I have some card happy defensemen as well. I toggle back and forth between a 3-5-2 and a 4-4-22 dia. And I go toggle between 3-5-2 O and 3-5-2 D depending on which OMC is hurt for me. It also keeps your opponent from knowing what you are gonna run unless he really pays attention to you.
I religiously keep my guys in their FP. Even adaptable guys drop a notch out of position, so why play them out of position.

On a related "creative formations" question, has anyone determined the difference (ME speaking) with playing three DCs vs playing a DC and two outside fullbacks? I would think that all DCs might give you a bit better defense in the middle while allowing the opposing wingers more space on the outside, while a DC and two fullbacks might weaken the middle but would give you a bit more attack with your defenders making runs up the wing?

I was always worried about a 1DC/2FB system and why I avoided the 3-3-3-1 most of the time. Leaving the middle open bothers me, especially being an ex-keeper to some degree. I hated when guys were left open in front of me.
I never liked the 3 DC options either because I have 2 FBs that I like. But I have run a defensive 3-5-2 well, but the 3-5-2 Off has left me with mixed results. Just not enough defense and my offense guys aren't strong enough to keep heavy pressure on the opponents.

This is why I like the 3-2-3-2. You have only 1 DC in the back with the two fullbacks but you have 2 anchoring DMCs to protect the middle of your defense and help out your DC. And then you have 5 players to help out on offense. I've built my team around that formation and won't change formation unless I get a highly rated youth in a position that isn't used in the 3-2-3-2 (like MC) or if I have a ton of injuries, I might change for a game or two to accommodate.

I do like the 3-2-3-2, but I have a MR that is one of my better players, but he is not adaptable at all. So if I have to play him even at the OMR, he struggles. But with the ability to tilt the formation a bit, it might work to run the tilted diamond and tilted 3-2-3-2. I'll let you know how it goes.

My first team got trounced 5-1 even though the stats were virtually even. I've been searching for a new GK but the search has gone up in importance of that performance.
My reserve team had a dramatic win though. Losing 2-1, the team gets the equalizing goal in the 91st minute and the game winning goal in the 92nd.

Same here. 4-1 for me. Stats even.
Im looking to spend the 60 mil I currently have on a good goalie but the ones better than my current one are pricey.

Well I ran the White Rock Half this morning and finally got to check what happend.
I played one of the two other undefeateds (and who had an 8-1 goals to my 4-1 coming into the match). We managed an 0-0 draw. Which I will take. His goalie got the MoM (I had 10 shots, 8 on goal). All in all I was pretty happy with the result, but my stud DR got a straight red.
So I am now without my starting DC (55.6), DR (57.2), and OMC (57.4). Can I expect that at any given time 3 of my 5 best players will not be suiting up?

I have 180 million. He went for 150 million and I would have been prepared to spend the entire 180 on him. I would have had a decent shot at it if I was awake. Oh well.

It seems like my FCs take a half season to warm up before we can get out of the regulation zone. Back to a standard 4-4-2 Diamond for me until things get back on track. And like the rest of the game, looking for a goalie upgrade since it is my weakest spot.

Speaking of training updates, when do they happen? It would seems to me the best time to run weekly events would be game time.
Training updates generally start at about 10 PM our time. You'll see it updated in the squad overview screen first and then you'll actually see the arrows and attributes updated in the training "assign players" view. That usually takes longer and you won't see those till tomorrow morning some time.
Well, trying a new formation against my reserves last night netted a huge win. May give it a try tonight.

I agree, but its gonna be sad when they don't develop like I hoped and I end up sinking to the bottom of USA Div6.
