Sigh, 9 goals in two games to two of the weakest teams. My goalie turned in a performance of 1 and a 2. This is not a good start. Looks like my motto of this season will be "Not ready for Div 3 anyway"

Off to a craptastic start.

The Raiders have 1 win, 1 draw, and 3 losses.
Last night blew a 3-0 halftime lead to the first place team.

Have a few quality guys for sale, solid div 4/5 players and could probably do some damage in D3 as well. If you're a D5 team these are the kind of player you use to start building up your club.

First guy is a 21 year old MR/OMR, 8k ASI and 56/62 trexma, 3 stars. Second guy is a 25 year old MR, almost 13k ASI and 56 trexma, also 3 stars.

Off to a horrible start. I've blown multiple games that I should easily have won. I've lost 3 of my best players to continue my injury streak that cost me a trophy late last year. Not sure what happened to my team. They were traditionally fit, now they've been dropping like flies. I'm not sure what has happened but it ain't good.
I've upgraded my med and gym, so hopefully that helps.

Im getting killed here too guys. Last season was my first in D3 and I held 3rd place for most of the season and finished well ahead of relegation.

I sold a striker that wasnt doing much for his ASI and my keeper retired. I bought a new keeper(same or better) and a big upgrade in DC yet my team is getting killed in the same league I was doing great in last season!

I'm getting killed too. Rough season. My 3 top players have already had injuries. Right now it's my star GK for 6 more games...

I'm not sure I have a strategy...

And Im now in dept.

QUESTION:

I am 8mil in dept and cant pull this week's youths. If I sell a player and get some cash mid-week can I pull those youths or are they gone for good?
ja86
How long do you want to ignore this user?
they should stay in your youth pool up till they turn 18 at which time they will be deleted at the end of the season.

Tonite should tell me a lot about my season. I have been without my two stars for the last few games and been getting beat handily. They are back, I just wish I had my star who retired and was a big part of getting me to D4.

edit: At what point do I consider moving my 20* keeper up. He only has a routine of 2.4 but he seems to be getting the job done cosistently, and I can't help but be worried that I would be in some of my D4 games if he was the keeper.

denied, I'd give it a shot. If you're not having a good season it can't hurt, right? What's his age/ASI/bloom status/etc?

As per Kairos FC, we're having a rather up and down season so far, middle of the pack in goals scored and dead last in goals allowed. My starting GK is decent but not great (but also blooming) and he just went down with an injury, his replacement is decent but low routine and allowed 4 to a bottom of the table team last night :p

Have two players on the TL, this solid young American midfielder:
http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=21340166

And I didn't want to sell this guy but am in desperate need of a good GK, so if you happen to have a LOT of cash burning a hole in your pocket and need a 4.5 star outside midfielder:

Just a word of caution ... in TM, it's difficult to make judgments about players or seasons after just a handful of matches.

A "slump" may just be a matter of not getting the right roll of the dice here and there. Doesn't necessarily mean your team isn't up to par.

Last season, I only won three matches in the first half of the season and wound up finishing 7th.

Real Albuquerque is off to a poor start (which is unusual because we typically start off strong and then tail off towards the end of the season). Good thing is that my good YD prospects are starting to mature, so I'm able to sell a few to balance the books and keep a few stronger ones to provide depth or starters for my squad.

In fact, I got an email saying they were looking at my starting DC for a NT spot. Who knows if they'll use him, but it's nice to be noticed.

Here's that DC:http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=44642090

And here's another DMR 20* I'm taking offers on: http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=53898255

oh i delete the ones i don't want too, but if there is a good prospect but you are in debt and can't pull, they will hang around.

Hey RA, I got a national team PM about one of my prospects, too, a 19* DL who is set to start bloom here in a few weeks.

Perhaps our defenders will anchor the US back line together.
fig96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I sold my NT prospect...totally worth it

I'd kill to pull an 18/19* defender. I do have an 18*-ish FC just starting to bloom though.
jeffk
How long do you want to ignore this user?
yeah, I sold my 20* FC a season ago and will most likely sell the 20* DMR too. But I figured having the DC anchor my defense for years to come was too good to pass up. Plus, my finances are in pretty good shape as they stand now.

Here's a question for the experts: if I have a great DC, would playing a three man back line be beneficial? I know TM works by analyzing player match-ups, so would my stud DC be more likely to be included in those match-ups if he was on his own in the middle or paired up with another, less talented DC?

It'd be great if they picked my DC for the NT and even better if both of our guys were there together, Eclipse. We could have a running game rating competition!
CDub06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Man, I've not had the success with youth pulls that y'all have had. I have 1 player that plays on my squad that I got from a youth pull. He was a 18-19 GK. Great player!

Other than that, I have a single 16 on my B team and a few 15s.

My main team is made up of transfers. Not enough homegrown talent...

I got a 17* FC once. he's hurt for 8 games lol...

I've played a 3 man backline for the last several seasons, the match engine seems to look favorably on a 5 man midfield in my experience.

jeff, I'm guessing your DC is still blooming?
jeffk
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah. He still has just UNDER a year of bloom left.

EDIT: I don't count too good.

Man, I'm jealous. None of my "studly" youths have been tapped for the national team watch list. Even if they won't ever develop into legit national team players it would be nice to be recognized. Did you guys post your youths to the youth pull threads in order to get them noticed?

If anyone is in the market for a right-side midfielder, I've got one for sale. Contrary to what his stats might indicate, he is not injury prone. I've just never fully committed to playing a lineup for an entire season that would have him playing every game.

Gig them,

While not a world-beater he does look like he could be oppressive to his opponents' hopes of possession.

Ag-in-a-Box ... Wyoming Smokers and Los Angeles FC are now serving as the U22 coordinators for the national team. They spent time going through every roster in Divisions 1-4 looking for young players with potential. That's how they came across my DL (he's 18 with about 7,500 ASI).

EclipseAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Re: three-man back lines ... I've been using a 3-5-2 for several seasons now and it's worked well.

Sometimes I use three DCs. Other times I use two DCs and a fullback. But as soon as I get some young players through bloom, I will switch to one DC and a DR/DL.

I don't have any solid evidence to back it up, but it makes sense to me that if you have one DC rather than two, he will be involved in any play that comes through the middle, since TM is a 1 v. 1 game.

So better to have one stud than two average players or one stud/one average.

I know a lot of managers worry about covering all the field but I don't really think that comes into play with the ME.
jeffk
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've been talking with LAFC about my DC. He's got just under a year left on his bloom period (my math yesterday was a little off when I said a little over a year). He forwarded my scouting reports on the W4L (our NT coach for the US) and we'll have to see what he decides.

I actually doubt he'll get picked up, but we'll see I guess.

I've been playing:

----------F--F----------
----------OMC---OMR--
--ML-------------------
----------DMC----------
--DL--DC-DC--DR---

Do you think this unbalanced lineup puts me at a disadvantage? Or does it even matter?

Can anyone help me evaluate how much is a fair price for this guy?

I need money to stay in Div 3 but I dont want to give him up for under value.

He was training at ~17-18TI for 10 weeks and since then has been blooming at ~26-28TI for 13 weeks.

Here are the scout reports:

[Andres Southern] 2011-02-08
Andres has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has star (19) potential. He thinks that P. Stewart is in the middle of his bloom and is in the middle of his development. Andres thinks P. Stewart may naturally develop good heading ability. The young lad seems to have a somewhat weak physique with little room for improvement.
[Jasper Netherfield] 2011-02-08
Jasper has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has star (19) potential. He thinks that P. Stewart is starting to bloom and is in the middle of his development. Jasper thinks P. Stewart may naturally develop good heading ability. Technically your scout estimates P. Stewart to have lots of potential for improvement.
[Noel Lea] 2010-11-17
Noel has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has star (19) potential. He is certain the player has not bloomed, yet. He has a strong feeling that P. Stewart is an early bloomer and is in the middle of his development. Noel thinks P. Stewart may naturally develop good heading ability. The young lad seems to have a good physique with room for improvement. Noel thinks that P. Stewart has a limited understanding of the tactical aspects of the game and does not expect him to be able to improve this part of his game substantially. Technically your scout estimates P. Stewart to have lots of potential for improvement. Noel also noticed that P. Stewart demonstrates OK leadership ability and very good professionalism.
[Dennis Kerslake] 2010-10-18
Dennis has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has formidable (17) potential. He thinks that P. Stewart is starting to bloom and is in the middle of his development. Dennis thinks P. Stewart may naturally develop good heading ability. The young lad seems to have an ok physique with some room for improvement. Dennis also noticed that P. Stewart demonstrates good professionalism.
[Jasper Netherfield] 2010-09-13
Jasper has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has star (19) potential. He is certain the player has not bloomed, yet. He has a strong feeling that P. Stewart is an early bloomer and has most of his development ahead of him. Technically your scout estimates P. Stewart to have lots of potential for improvement.
[Luke Martinez] 2010-09-13
Luke has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has outstanding (18) potential. He thinks that P. Stewart is starting to bloom and has most of his development ahead of him. The young lad seems to have a somewhat weak physique with little room for improvement. Luke thinks that P. Stewart has a limited understanding of the tactical aspects of the game and does not expect him to be able to improve this part of his game substantially. Luke also noticed that P. Stewart demonstrates OK leadership ability and that he seems to be a not particularly aggressive type.
[Agustin Vinson] 2010-09-13
Agustin has been following P. Stewart and thinks that he has star (19) potential. He is certain the player has not bloomed, yet. He has a strong feeling that P. Stewart is a normal bloomer and has most of his development ahead of him. Agustin thinks that P. Stewart has a limited understanding of the tactical aspects of the game and does not expect him to be able to improve this part of his game substantially. Agustin also noticed that P. Stewart demonstrates normal professionalism.

PLAYER PUZZLES!

I'm having trouble deciding between permanent players, thus who to sell at a couple positions. I guess I'm a TM packrat and can't get rid of any. Please help me make a decision. Yes, I know I COULD dump them all

Player A - DL/DML
http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=19564080
-he's older and has good pace & defense. He's less complete, but also has good Cross and is a dual DL/DML. He's cheaper to keep and wouldn't net huge amounts on the TL. Could also be a backup outside midfielder

versus

Much higher rated player B - DL:
http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=35565624
-he's almost finishing bloom, much higher asi with similar FP skills and will end up a better overall player. He costs alot more and will bring ALOT more on the TL.

-------------------------------------------

Player C, D and E are all vying for my OML position

player C - OML/OMC
http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=22278928
-older more of an outside striker, less crossing and passing

player D - also OML/OMC
http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=36689450
-middle age of 3. more of a passer and crosser. Less scoring ability.

Player E - only OML
http://trophymanager.com/showprofile.php?playerid=43864952
-youngest, 19 and just finished blooming. FAAR less routine. Similar to player D but will likely end up better. But little routine.

I'm pondering selling player E since I have a 19 year old ML that rates 19, but refuses to bloom. He'll eventually replace all 3.

I could keep player B as a backup to the DL and the outside midfield player and sell 2 of players C, D and E.

I'm getting flustered by my own indecision. Please step in replace my brain. I realize all are capable in Div4, but not all at Div.3 where I've been close to returning. Finished 3rd last season and looking at a similar type finish this season.
