1. I've read that having a Training Ground is more important early on than having a Youth Development center. Do you agree? If so, what level would you build your Training Grounds before investing in Youth Development?
Yes that is true, but I would build both as fast as possible, and really, you only need to build it to Lvl. 8.
2. How quickly did you start upgrading your stadium? Was there any upgrade that gave a better return? Any that were a waste?
The "rule" for stadiums is to be able to hold 2.5x as much fans as you have. So say if you have 4000 fans, your stadium should be big enough for 10,000 fans. Not sure about which upgrade gives you a better return than others. I do know, DONT get a mobile roof, for the stadium, its the biggest fraud on the game. It doesnt do anything for you.
3. Anyone interested in setting up a Texags player swap? What I'm thinking about is the experienced guys helping out the newbies by selling youth players, that aren't quite up to par, at a very cheap rate. The experienced player gets a little cash rather than firing a player and the newbie gets someone to try and develop while they are building other areas.
Thats a good idea, but the problem is you might have to compete for the players were selling with other teams that want him, and then it could turn in to being an expensive player.
Lurk here alot but don't post real often... just noticed this thread. I've been playing since the very tail end of season 5... my team is Texas 1836 SC. Anyway, I concur with the bulk of the advice here.
It will take awhile to upgrade the Training Ground and Youth Academy anyway... so I would get started right away. Probably until about level 5 they don't get to be extrememly expensive... and by the time you get them that high you'll be a veteran at this game and better able to decide for yourself how much MORE to upgrade them.
On the financial front... you can probably afford early on to begin building a competive team AND upgrade the training ground and youth academy if you buy older foreign players to augment your initial roster. Because you can only have 5 foreigners in the lineup at any given time I wouldn't go hog wild... but in the lower divisions 1 or 2 good strikers with high heading/finishing scores to go along with a keeper with high reflex/handling/one-on-ones skills and maybe 1 or 2 midfielders with good passing/crossing and workrate/positioning skills will probably get you successive promotions.
On the buying/selling front, as you guys all probably know by now, there's a relatively new system in place called the "open transfer system" that gives you a minimal financial advantage if you want to buy a player not currently transfer listed. If you haven't heard of this yet look it up on the TM site in the forum under the "Game Development" page or read about it in the "updated" manual.
And lastly... yes... I think you do get a trophy for the abbreviated season if you finish in the top 3.
