I recommend starting the B-team.
Extra games each week and you can build routine for the young players you're developing.
They will give you some scrubs to fill your roster but I advise grabbing some young American players that haven't bloomed.

Okay I just took the plunge and have read through some of this monster thread but still have a few questions.
Does the amount of foreigners in your lineup change as you move up divisions or is 5 the set limit forever?
When you guys talk about pulling a 19/20 youth where do you see this information? Do you have to have a scout look at him or is this just baseless speculation by the cheap/shady guy I've got now till I hire someone legit?
Is it better to sell some of my older guys, be mid-table and repeat division 5 while I drop the chaff and make my squad stronger for the long haul, or do what I can to gain promotion even if my facilities/team aren't all that by the end of the season?

Scout ratings. You should invest in at least 2-3 scouts. Otherwise you will be
shooting in the dark.

When you do a Scout Search make sure you make the constraints DEV 15+, SEN 15+, YTH 15+.
You can get to Div4 with the geezers and linger in Div4 while upgrading your team over the seasons.
You replace the geezers 1 at a time with youth as you upgrade your facilities.
You make more money in Div.4, assuming you can avoid relegation.

Thanks aggiebones, I kinda figured I'd want promotion and just take my punches if necessary. I've got a couple of good players and I picked up some kids for cheap on the foreign transfer market so I'll sell a few of my guys and we'll see how it goes. My league has 4 B teams, an inactive and one banned team. I'm sitting in 3rd leading the league in goal differential. So as long as things continue like that I'll be okay.

Yes, you go me. I left my team on defense from the last game and they mustered nothing offensive. Had half the possession, but opted to pass back and forth in their own end. I had a couple of short key injuries to my OMCs which is why I did it. Also lost my MR and my backup there is a DML, lol. Not exactly a favorable move. But we'll have many more battles this season I think.

Another dumb question. Since there are several B teams in my league and I beat one 10-0 last time with my starters I left all of them at home and played a young squad. They weren't true reserves because I don't have many 16-17 YO's.
Anyway question is do my players gain skill(s) when playing games or is that strictly during training? What if anything do I gain besides avoiding injury by playing the younger guys?

Playing games gives players Routine which basically boosts every skill. You can see routine on the players' bio pages.
So after complaining on here about my keeper Weaver, the dude pulls off six straight clean sheets.
Of course, now that I've mentioned it he'll crater on Thursday.

My latest wtf moment came yesterday when I tied a 6th division Italian team (80k total team ASI) in a quickmatch and then beat the group leader (1.3m total team ASI) in a league match without making any lineup changes.

Development question. Think I got real lucky. Bought this Russian kid on the TL for 100k to shore up my striker positions. Wasn't much to look at but had stats in the right areas and as a youngster I thought at that price...what the hey.

Rakarov is a late bloomer and is in the middle of his development. The young lad seems to have a splendid physique (4/4) with lots of room for improvement.
So what exactly does it mean he's in the middle of his development yet he hasn't bloomed? Any one else got a free scout who can confirm this potential find for me or interpret what exactly I can expect.

To be honest, with your low level training facilities, he will be lucky to get >2k ASI. So I'd try to sell him after his 6 weeks are over...

Bloom is when your player has high TI(training index). Which is to say that it is when your player will increase their skills. A player's bloom will last 36 weeks and you should expect a TI from around 15 and up.
This bloom training adds onto a player's base TI, which usually runs from about 3-10 when they are 16-18 yrs old. On their 19th bday that number cuts in half and then slowly decreases. Once a player hits 27 their skills will actually start to go down.

Surprisingly, my team currently sits atop 4.21 and I don't really know how.
My team is mostly made up of a bunch of lower ASI role players and if I do somehow end up getting promoted I think I'll be destroyed on a regular basis.

I have a mild dream of avoiding relegation, but I know I'm only even or worse than the 4 teams that I have to pass even though I'm not that far behind. Plus, I get Atlanta tomorrow...

My salary adjustment for this season has crippled me. These players make way more money that they are worth.I've been selling off 13 rated players this season to stem the tide and avoid dumping my top players, but I'm going to have to up my game to survive financially.
Anyone want to look at my club and see if I'm making any obvious financial blunders? I'm sure my restaurant, etc is a mess. Haven't touched it in many seasons.

Spent most of my early season money (25M) on 3.5 star keeper with 17k ASI. BIG MISTAKE.
Guy has been terrible even though he has good stats (for league 5.15).
On another note, I did pull a 17* FC with a natural heading skill and 4/4 technical potential.

Ok not terrible, he'll go 4 or 5 games giving up 1 or 0 goals, then all the sudden will give up 3 to a 12th place team that gets 4 shots all game.
What is his routine?

It's 18. Bought a younger keeper that cost a third as much, has 1 quarter the ASI, but *a* point higher on trexma. And similar routine. I'm gonna get my 25M back.
