Did I miss the post declaring the local Hooters was destroyed by medians and the almighty hand of Joe Biden?
Even being right on the bypass wasn't enough to save it.

Wow. This is the worst since Covid.

Is it, though? Thinking back this is what was directly attributed to COVID:
Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant
Applebee's
Fuddruckers
Red Lobster
Rice Garden
Subway (Southgate location)
(+ Altitude Trampoline Park)
(+ Gordmans)
(+ Stein Mart)

These are the restaurants that we lost recently for any reason:
Casa Ole
Fargo's Pit BBQ
Hooters
Imperial Chinese Restaurant
Mo's Irish Pub
(+ Edible Arrangements)

Restaurants have always come and gone here, often in waves. Famous BBQ casualties: Tom's, Pop's, Randy Sims…probably missing a few more.

Medians was not the issue, because they are moving Shipwreck into that space. Aren't they both owned by the same family?

The restaurant business is hard in the best of times. A slight adjustment to the cost of food, supplies, labor, or rent will kill a lot of them. Especially local places that can't rely on more successful stores in other locations to offset temporary (?) increases.

I should've put a winky face beside that one. Yes, husband and wife own the pair is my understanding.

Hey, didn't the crazy economy kill Charlie Mac's trailer too?

Well, you can't just start throwing in every restaurant that closed in the last four years, that obfuscates every trend and makes any comparisons meaningless.

Yes, I added the photo to this thread, but someone else said it was to get rid of inventory. I don't know myself.

Howdy's was COVID. The others are more recent, like in the past 12-18 months, IIRC. Can't blame COVID for World of Beer or Mr. Hamburger.

What I'm saying is, the trend started in the past year to year and a half.

My apologies. Would explain why there's been radio silence since then.

Website does say they aren't currently taking orders, but to check back.

Who knows (hoping against hope).

Imperial is having a soft reopening. One of the owners left and there's been some slight changes to the menu. I'm hoping to get over there in the next week or so.

News reports say MOD pizza parent company is declaring chapter 11 this coming week. Unclear if all or some locations will close. Would seem unlikely that all would close in a chapter 11.

How about looking at businesses opening/closing at the newer properties. I would assume these places are upper tier on cost per sq ft.

Towerpoint
Caprock
Century Square
Jones Crossing

Which one of these has a better business success/retention record?
Opinions on why?
Strengths / Weakness of each

Must have been December 2022. Moved back in July of '22 and it was definitely still open then. Good pizza, absolutely terrible service

Unfortunately, it's an issue throughout the country - even places with "strong" economies. Skyrocketing rents and costs and no end in sight.

Yup four years of inflation. Higher taxes. The list goes on.

Exactly! These closings have everything to do with the horrific Biden economy and nothing to do with medians, our demographics, or local policies. This is not normal for all these businesses to close here. I've been here over 30 years. This is the worst economy in almost 100 years!

There are many more businesses that are missing from that list.

Last time I went, I had an Earl sandwich, the wife had a small pizza, two drinks and we split a cookie and it was $40 and that is ridiculous.
