When I can choose between OTB or Lupe, I choose Lupe.

When I can choose between my kitchen or trouble's kitchen over OTB, I choose mine or her kitchen.

When I can choose between Chuys or OTB, I choose Chuys.

I have to say, it's embarrassing that in a town full of WONDERFUL LOCAL TexMex, that OTB is still open

I tend to agree, but I remember when OTB opened up, it was awesome to have here. Of course, those other places were not here yet. But my friends and I used to go there almost every Friday night for dinner.

We get this catered quite a bit for work and the catering is way better than in person

I grew up thinking OTB was the **** . We went to the one in Tyler all the time. Once I spread my wings and left the confines of rural East Texas, I realized it was garbage.

OTB is fine for drinks and salsa on a busy weekend

There are simply to many choices in restaurants. You could make a career of trying on new ones.

Eating out is expensive and that makes it hard to gamble as opposed to sticking with the tried and true. And don't let me get started on having a cocktail or wine with a meal. I would rather stay home than pay for a glass of 'house' wine . A named wine/cocktail is the price of an entree.

The dew is off the rose for me.

Good riddance to Planet K.

And as someone replied to Rusty, it is Hibbett, not Hibbits.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Drove past OTB at 5:57.

There were 2 cars in the parking lot, and based on where they were, I bet it was employees and not customers.

I spent a lot of time there in college. But maybe once every 1-2 years now.

Their spice palette never set well with me. Too much chili powder or something. When different spices are too strong, I always wonder what they are trying to cover up. And I'm not talking about heat.

To be transparent, I haven't eaten there in about 10 years.

They indeed fought long and hard and were quite stubborn with the City of Bryan.

Myself, I never went in there. Too far off the bypass.

Any word on when the Indian-Nepalese restaurant in Westgate is opening? Between the Filipino place (Pinoy) and the ramen place (Yumori), a nice little pan-Asian restaurant row is taking shape there.

So has one place that has closed down had REALLY GOOD OMG AMAZING FOOD? I'm still waiting for that closing to happen.

I know sone may disagree, but for me, Mad Taco fits that description.
Mad Taco had good food, but to me it was overpriced considering the portion size.

I would say that Mad Taco was the closest to that category, but still not quite there. I'm much more excited about what is replacing it.

I can never tell if these are serious comments or jokes. Obviously Amico Nave was closed for other reasons; otherwise they wouldn't be moving Shipwreck Grill over to that building.

Pretty lame of KBTX not to even give the address. It's 1411 Wellborn Ste. 500 where the tanning salon used to be.

Go back and read the owner's comments about the medians in the kbtx story on the matter. He didn't seem to be joking about the medians being detrimental to the business of Amico Nave.

Which was ridiculous as there's a break in the medians with a turn onto the street that runs right next to their parking lot. It was never about the medians.

They got a huge facade grant from the CoB to get rid of the boat. They took the money. Story over.

And as said before, would be kind of hypocritical, considering they are moving their other restaurant from across the street to the area that supposedly was effected by the median install.

They own the AN property not the SW one. They could have just been honest about why they closed AN.

It is, and I'm almost 100% sure the owner stated the medians were one reason for closing.

The full quote is:
Quote:

We have some shiny new medians out front that have been extremely hard and devastating to revenues.

But that all gets thrown out the window if they're moving Shipwreck Grill to the spot, which means at least one of the following:
1. It was tongue-in-cheek and not to be taken at face value.
2. Turns out the medians were not actually a significant factor in the closure of Amico Nave.
3. Moving Shipwreck Grill over to that side is some sort of long con that involves taxpayer money, knowing that it would fail.

I don't think anyone would actually suggest #3 is true, so it was tongue-in-cheek or the medians weren't really a big issue. I'm sure the construction of the medians (construction always hurts) but the medians themselves did not hurt business.

How you can reconcile "medians hurt my business" while moving Shipwreck Grill to the building?

Because you get $100,000 from the city to upgrade that location.

That was already in the works though. They were the only ones who applied for that grant, they knew they were going to be awarded the full value. Again, just be honest.

To ADD a boat. They are currently renovating the AN building to add a boat facade. The "beautification grant" will give us two boat buildings.

Number three is interesting...

AFTER Amico Nave closed, and AFTER the owner made the median comments, the city decides to use a grant to partially fund the Shipwreck move (same owner) to the Amico Nave location?

Said owner was also placed on the parking board appointed by the mayor for the downtown parking kerfuffle. Appointed at roughly the same time

Weird coincedences.

.

Yet. The semiconductor fab at RELLIS is being billed as doubling the tax base of Bryan. If anywhere close to true, I'm sure Bryan will start wasting a lot more money.
