Quote:

Forty-five rattlesnakes were found living under the home of a Texas man who called a pest removal service after seeing 'a few' of the critters.

Nathan Hawkins, owner of Big Country Snake Removal, recounted the unusually busy day at work in a Facebook post with an 18-minute video of the job that will make your skin crawl.

Hawkins said he was called to a family home outside of Albany, about 150 miles west of Dallas, last week by a man who had crawled under the structure to investigate why the cable had gone out.

When he went to look for himself, Hawkins said: 'I could immediately see that there was far more than a "few".'

The company ended up removing 45 snakes from under the house, the longest of which was five-and-a-half feet long.

In the video, several of the snakes appeared quite irritated about the disturbance at their winter home.

According to Hawkins, the family - whose identity withheld - was stunned by the discovery given that they rarely saw rattlesnakes in their well-kept yard.

'We run into this scenario often, and people don't think it can happen to them,' he wrote in the Facebook post.

'Rattlesnakes don't care how nice your house is or what kind car you drive- they care simply about survival.'

Now these folks will have to call the exterminator again for their upcoming mouse problem.

Wow. I'm a lot more cautious when they have rattles.

Most of the time when some suggests "burn it down" its in jest, but honestly if I couldn't sell it I'd burn that MOFO down before I could ever get a good night sleep in the house again

Not too many snake photos lately, so here are some more coral snake pics. I have posted before about a coral snake living in an equipment shed. Late Saturday afternoon I was getting ready to put a tractor back in the shed when I noticed a coral snake cruising across the dirt floor. I figured it was the same one I posted on here before, so I got off to go see what it was up to. It crawled out a side door and went out into the yard where I was and proceeded to make a large arc across the yard in front of the shed, past the running tractor which it didn't pay any attention to, and on over to the other side of the shed. It went underneath a shredder parked nearby and almost immediately came back out and went back out into the yard, made a u-turn and then disappeared into some tall grass underneath a trailer parked alongside the shed.

Later I checked to see if it had come back inside and to my surprise I found two coral snakes within about six feet of each other and approximately the same size. Not sure which one had been outside, if either of those two.

coral snake #1

coral snake #2

After a few minutes they both went back underground. Coral snake #1 went down an old skunk burrow, while #2 went down a small hole I had seen it use before.

snake #1 going down a burrow

snake #2 crawling into his hole

A couple of weeks ago my brother found a large dead one close to this shed that apparently the cats had killed. I'm beginning to wonder how many snakes are actually living there.

I don't know man. Stepping on one of those at night can be a death sentence. I would relocate them if I were you.

Found a neat little brown snake after yard work in Sublime. Nice to find a snake that is not a copperhead for once.

Nothing to report yet. Cool nights have kept the snakes in Dens. Supposed to warm into the 80's this week so that might bring them out. I'm going to set out traps and see if any show.

Not true... No confirmed deaths related to the Texas coral snake (Micrurus tener) have been reported.

Edit: Apparently they have now decided that the Texas coral snake is a completely different species than the Eastern and Arizona coral snake and no longer a subspecies and it now has its own scientific name.

Unless he plans to walk around the outdoors barefoot at night and stop to let the snake gnaw on one of his toes for a while, I don't think he has much to worry about.

Saw my first snake of the spring running season tonight. Was very uninterested in me.

This is late for normal as most of my trail runs in years past have seen a rattlesnake by now.

Are western diamondbacks venomous?

And I really wish I could hold all these snakes in my hands. They look so badass.

I'm not good enough yet to ID a snake based on its belly

I am no expert and I am only trying to learn myself. My guess is copperhead due to some of the markings on the belly looking a little like the top side and that head looks a little triangular, although it is hard to tell for newbies like myself.

The tail also was a little wider and then narrowed down rather quickly I thought. Someone will let us know

By the way, I forgot to say thank you for this snake thread over the years. I have learned a ton from the experts on here and I am glad that they have kept the previous years threads up so we can go back and look at them over and over and learn

Big time thanks for running this year after year!!!!!!!!

I am probably wrong but, rat snake.

I am looking on my phone and I am not even close to being an expert.

I will say this, the tail is throwing me off.

Edit:
I am officially changing my guess to Hognose and it is because of the tail.

Picture quality is pretty bad, but I think that is a large hognose based on shape and patterning.

I know the picture is bad but wouldn't that be a huge hognose?
