What has changed in the NFL that kickers make these long FGs regularly now? Just better strength training or what?

I read a really fascinating thing about the balls being different. The kickers used to get the balls for kicking that game like an hour before the game started. Now they get 60 balls before the season and can break them in as much as the want, then pick 3, and once the refs approve it, they get to kick that ball.

This Fox article says they think it's adding 3-5 yards of range for good kickers.

That drive notwithstanding, I think Caley has called a pretty good game. If the offense can look like this all year, we're going to be a problem for people.

As soon as the announcer said, "It's never too early to start using clock" I knew that the Bills would get the ball back and use up the whole clock leaving the Texas with nothing.
