Texans Bingo Update

We have a win streak going! Just 4 more to get that 5+ square so many people unfortunately took. And frankly, this is probably the only part of the season where there's even a ghost of a chance to win 5 straight, with the Jags, (4-1, but not good vs Houston), Giants, Chargers, Browns, and Colts upcoming.

Will Anderson is so dominant he's going to get his 11 sack Bingo square before Halloween at this rate. He's at 7.5 sacks with the square of 11. He's on pace for 26, which would shatter the NFL record.

Kaimi's 4-for-4 performance put him up to 91.8% FG accuracy.

Playing the Titans really improved the TO ratio. Team is now +3 on takeaways/giveaways, on pace for +10.

CJ's on pace for 4,767 yards, 20 TDs, and 0 INTs.

Schultz is ahead of his paces for yards and catches but doesn't have a touchdown.

Josh Allen continues to lead the league in rushing touchdowns (8). The record is 15, held by him and Jalen Hurts in 2023. Right now, Allen's on pace for 27. The league record for rushing TD by any player is LaDanian Tomlinson with 28 in 2006.

I will say CJ has played much better this season. So my take earlier on about Baker i feel way less sure about. All that to say I think it will be tough to pay Stroud and feel a strong team at least for the first couple of years of his new contract. But likely the right call.

The immediate hit to the cap won't happen till year 2, but yes, there will be issues with cap and paying players once that contract kicks in.

that's the tough thing

the Texans did not maximize their success while Stroud was on his rookie contract

Well

Thats also on Stroud. Easily should have made the Super Bowl last year if he had not turned into a pumpkin in the playoffs.

Harrison's time in the 40 was glossed over heading into the draft

and it's a big reason why he struggles with separation and has such a high contested catch rate

by the way...Rome Odunze was taken 9th overall the same year -- also with all kinds of praise and hype -- and he's basically a jag

It's been a while so I could be misremembering but I want to say he basically didn't really do much pre draft because he was already such a highly thought of prospect. Off the top of my head, I don't recall him running at all. (btw Rome was a nice player but I don't think he had hype that was anywhere in the stratosphere of MHJ. The best comparison I can think of when it comes to caliber of prospect is coming out after this season from the same place, Jeremiah Smith. He's spoken of so similarly to MHJ minus the famous dad stuff)

The one thing that's always stuck with me regarding his speed though was a play when he was at Ohio state, supposedly he hit over 22mph which at the time was faster than anyone in the NFL had been recorded either that particular weekend or up to that point in the season, I forget which. Tyreek Hill was the NFL player with the top speed he surpassed. I'll take faster than Tyreek in a live game any day.

I don't dispute that he doesn't always get a ton of separation, I just don't think it's necessarily an issue of speed. I think he's just a guy more comfortable leveraging his height and bodying up on defenders than he is someone who needs to shake them on the route. It would explain his lack of numbers playing with Brissett, some qbs just aren't comfortable trusting their guy to win those kinds of matchups (or aren't confident in their ability to place the ball accurately). Obviously there's a ton of factors that play into it, but if that's one, it shouldn't be an issue here. CJ already has plenty of time throwing to him and had a ton of success.

This has the potential to be the most talented group of receivers at one time on the team if it works out. I know Andre and Hopkins had a season or two together but Andre was winding down his career and Hopkins, while solid as a rookie, wasn't the superstar just yet. Either way, when Higgins returns next year, having him, Noel, and I guess Tank at 3-4-5 could be deadly behind Nico and MHJ, especially if Klein develops into a player
