My only point was that IF you got a similar performance that you got today for the remainder of the season, that you absolutely resign him. But that would prove that he's a much better qb than just average or slightly above average.

First games of a football reaction are always fodder for overreactions.

The Bears probably aren't going to average 59 points a game, although having Caleb Williams on my new dynasty team, I would certainly enjoy that.

The Jaguars aren't going to hold every team to less than 4 yards a rush, because they only play the Browns once.

The Jets aren't going to go 17-0 just because they beat the Titans.

So we can level out a few things.

The defense looked terrible in the first half, but much better in the second half, only allowing 12 points. Coulda shoulda woulda on the INT in the end zone, but it was a tough play.

The running game looked hugely improved with Montgomery and Marks as a tandem. 29 carries for 102 yards, 3 touchdowns for Monty, using multiple big tight ends to get leverage pushes on short-yardage situations when the Bills' defense knew it was coming.

Stroud played better in the flow, but choked to start the game and to end it. The first fumble turned out to be the real damning one. That turned into 3 points; without them, it's 33-31 Bills at the end with Kaimi winning it without needing Stroud trying to score a TD at the end.

Buffalo is an elite team, and there's really no excuse for them not to be at least in the AFC title game this year barring huge injuries. Next week, the Texans have to be much better on defense and pray they aren't in position where Stroud has to make plays to win a game late and close.

If you have good defensive and running game efforts, that will happen.

Otherwise, we're 1/17th of the way through his last season with the Texans. TBH, either outcome is fine with me.

Yeah. There's only about 5 or 6 guys in the world who can play QB at an elite level and if you don't have one of them, you're just picking between a host of risky options. While I don't love giving CJ a monster deal, if he can consistently play like he did today, that's good enough for this team to compete for a Super Bowl. That's worth the risk IMO.

To maybe move on to something beyond Stroud or the defense not showing up, my initial observations on the tight ends were night and day compared to last season. That's another group I want to keep an eye on when I watch the game again, which I hopefully will have time to do. I know how people reacted to the Klein pick but he stood out a few times today as a guy that brings a skill set that this team hasn't had in a long time in one player- blocking and receiving from the TE position. When is the last time we had that? Surely I'm forgetting someone and it's not all the way back to Fiedorowicz or however that's spelled?

Either way, the offense looks so much better with competent tight end play. Dalton is basically a big slot receiver, which is fine when you've got real tight ends to play alongside him, which we did not last season. I think they were a big part of today's success even if it wasn't in the stat sheet so much. I'm really starting to buy into Klein's potential the more I see of him.

This.

The bills are a good/great team. Texans have had their number the last few years. That wasn't going to last forever and they have a new coach as well.

Maybe it was the Texans changing the name of the stadium and Josh finally got that monkey off his back , maybe it was the defense isn't as good anymore, or maybe it was the first game and everything will be ok….they just lost to a really good team.

Might be your most neutral Texans post ever, but you and Charley are dead on.

We weren't gonna own Allen forever. I saw enough encouraging things offensively but the last two plays still haunt.

The defense definitely takes the blame. They were bad today. No pressure in the QB, bad CB play, bad mental mistakes. Just bad all around.

Stroud definitely shares in the blame with the two turnovers but Demeco needs to prepare his team better.

So many Texans fans thought they owned Allen.

Allen had some historically bad games against the Texans except the one in Buffalo where they won 40-0.

Some of that was the Texans some was Allen waking up on the wrong side of the bed. He's the #2 player in the league for a reason. Even a top
Defense can't shut him down forever.

I think the defense looked like a core that hadn't played meaningful plays together in a while and a few new pieces that didn't know their role. Kamari was awful today, which I don't suspect will continue. Blankenship was trying too hard and Aziz whiffed on quite a few. I think they'll figure it out. Lack of pass rush was concerning.

Offense was impressive, albeit low expectations. CJ spread it around and Montgomery looked like the billing.

Winnable game and should have been won, but it doesn't always go your way. On to next week.

The bills hadn't played meaningful football together in several weeks either. That's a sorry excuse. Coach "dopey" didn't have his defense ready to play and it showed. It may be that he had the best defense last year and it won't be this year, which happens. Let's hope that Cj doesn't play like the worst wonderlic score ever that he really is week in and week out.

He sucks and the only way this team can win is with him playing like an8th grade qb on a decent team.

That's what noticed yesterday, the offenses seemed to be better prepared across the league than the defenses. Defense didn't make plays, which is uncharacteristic.

I'm fine getting on the defense for the loss yesterday, but CJ is way down the list for me on reasons why the Bills won.

I saw a post game interview with Anderson, some reporter brought up "rat poison" to the former Bama standout.

He agreed there was probably some of that involved, and they can do better.

I expect a great day from the defense this Sunday against the Bengals.

The defense sucked. But, I have history that proves they will be good. We already know what Stroud will be.


Hate to break it to you but if Stroud plays like this all year, he's getting a 60+ mill extension.

I don't disagree in general, but that would lead to some pretty funny fumble related numbers.

The record for fumbles lost in a season is 11 by a couple of players, most recently Daniel Jones in 2019.

34 fumbles lost (17 x 2) would set the new mark in fairly hilarious fashion.

The record for fumbles in a season is 23, with the record being shared by Kerry Collins and Dante Culpepper.

If we add in his last two games from last season CJ has 7 fumbles. Putting the ball on the carpet at the same rate over 17 games would see him drop the rock 39.6 times.

Favre set the record for turnovers in a season with 36 (Winston is second with 35).

CJ's 9 turnovers his last 3 games would put him on pace for 51 over a 17 game season - but the 17th extra game is just gilding the lily for these records. CJ would only need anywhere from 9 games (fumbles lost) to 13 games (total turnovers) if he continues his last 3 games' ball management efforts apace.

Even at just 2 turnovers a game (playing like the Bills game all season) would see him record the 3rd most turnovers ever by game 16.

He really needs to get a few turnover clean sheets under his belt.

Not sure why though. Seems like people tend to agree with him but are pissed that he aired this out publicly and during the season. Folks saying he should've kept this in house to keep negative attention away from CJ.

IMO it's no different if he had said 'CJ needs to protect the ball better and stop forcing things when they're not there. He holds on to the ball too long at times and needs to get better at either scrambling away from pressure or getting the ball out quicker'.

He was asked and he gave a fair and accurate assessment. If it hurts CJ's feelings then maybe he isn't cut out to be an NFL QB.

Don't see what the fuss is about here.

Exactly. If Stroud is hurt by these comments then he's just proving AJ's point that CJ is just a sad little emo. And that's not the type of person that can lead a team…those personalities only bring teams down.

I saw AJ's comments. I just don't think they have anything to do with the Texans posting him on social media. He's one of the greatest players in franchise history and he honored the late owner. That's why it was posted. Sometimes things are exactly as they seem.

Is Andre one of his coaches? Is he a special advisor to the quarterback? If not, then he is not airing anything out and has no reason to sugar coat anything. How do you keep it in house when you are not working for the team in any capacity?

If anyone has expertise on crappy QBs for the Texans, it's Andre. When Matt Schaub is light years ahead of the rest of the field during your time with a franchise you've really been through the muck.

    I've been saying his body language isn't that of an nfl qb since day one.

    He just doesn't have it. It doesn't take a hof wide receiver to see if.
