If Klein ends up looking like he did last night, what is the cut off for tight ends? Are Jordan and Stover getting cut? or do we usually carry four due to our run packages?

The Houston Texans have completed several recent transactions to bolster the backend of their roster after some untimely injuries to would-be contributors.
To review, examples of key players who've been injured recently are:As a result of the mounting ailments, general manager Nick Caserio and co. have ventured to restock the roster supply in order to avoid having gaping holes at positions of potential need down the line. Here are three of the most telling signings for the franchise ahead of their Thursday night matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders this week.
- Brevin Jordan, tight end: knee
- Jake Hansen, linebacker: ankle, foot
- Jawhar Jordan, running back: hamstring
- Collin Wright, cornerback: soft-tissue injury
- Graham Mertz, quarterback: torn ACL
- British Brooks, running back/fullback: Broken hand
The Houston Texans have signed several players in response to key injuries
August 16th, 2026: Texans sign cornerback Bryce Hall
Verdict: Yesterday, Houston signed former New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Bryce Hall as a supposed alternate option to breakout rookie Collin Wright. As a 2020 fifth-rounder out of Virginia who's made a play or two in the secondary, Houston can potentially have a solution at CB4 if he makes an immediate impact under the tutelage of secondary coach Dino Vasso over the next two weeks.
August 16th, 2026: Texans sign tight end Louis Hansen
Verdict: As tight end Brevin Jordan is recovering from a lingering knee injury, there's a need for more depth at the position with only about three weeks left until the regular season. With Hansen being an undrafted free agent this year, it's not like he'll be looked at to really contend for legitimate reps in the near future. However, having as many healthy bodies as possible will help fill out the roster in the meantime while the coaching staff figures out what to do behind Dalton Schultz, Marlin Klein , Foster Moreau and Cade Stover.
August 15th, 2026: Texans sign quarterback Brett Rypien
Verdict: After third-string quarterback Graham Mertz tore his ACL in the first preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston opted to sign quarterback Brett Rypien to be his replacement. The signing signaled a commitment to the scheme, as Rypien and offensive coordinator have history dating back to their time spent together with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2023 season.
Rypien's arrival is also seen as an upgrade in a way, as he's actually been credited with 11 games of NFL experience, which includes a 2-2 record in four NFL starts (even though wins aren't entirely a quarterback stat). Meanwhile, Mertz has yet to touch the field during a live regular season game.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans and the Houston Texans are barreling toward the roster cutdown deadline. It is on August 30 this year, and it could be the end of the line for several noteworthy players like Brett Rypien, Jake Andrews, and Justin Watson.
Rypien is one of the newest Texans.
Watson is heading into his second season. However, Watson's first season was marred by injuries, leaving him just as susceptible to a roster shake-up.
In an article published on August 17, the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander went through the Texans' roster and projected several noteworthy decisions for Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio.
Alexander listed last year's starting center Jake Andrews, fellow offensive linemen Jarrett Patterson and Jarrett Kingston, and tight end Brevin Jordan as on the outs.
All of those players have started games for the Texans in the past.
Andrews only plays one position, and 2026 first-round pick Keylan Rutledge has taken his job. Patterson and Kingston would be victims of improved talent along the interior of the Texans' offensive line.
Jordan is also facing the threat of the numbers game at tight end.
Still, Andrews possibly losing out to Rutledge and 2025 free-agent pickup Evan Brownand that Patterson started five games in 2025speaks volumes. However, Alexander had some other noteworthy cut ideas.
The Texans are also projected to cut former Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs Tremon Smith and Justin Watson.
Even first-year Texans like Rypien were not safe.
Fellow free agent signing Dominique Robinson and trade pickup Marte Mapu also received their walking papers in Alexander's scenario. They joined recent draft pick Solomon Byrd and former UDFA Jared Wayne.
Alexander put several of the cut players on the Texans' hypothetical practice squad, which can include 16 players on standard contracts.
Rypien joined Andrews, Byrd, and Wayne in the projected practice squad. However, that still leaves several noteworthy names on the outside looking in. That also speaks volumes about the quality of depth at most positions on the Texans' roster.
Robinson is a fitting example.
He was one of two defensive ends the Texans signed in free agency, joining Logan Hall, who is also expected to rotate inside at defensive tackle.
However, the Texans have since added former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney back into the fold, changing their needs and leaving Robinson potentially fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster this summer.
Further to the point of the Texans' depth under Ryans and Caserio, ESPN ranked their roster the eighth-best unit in the NFL in projected outlook over the next three years.
Defense remains their strength, where ESPN's Benjamin Solak called it their "reason for hope."
"The Texans were one of three elite defenses last season (along with Seattle and Denver), and almost the entire starting 11 were homegrown players under coach DeMeco Ryans," Solak wrote in an article published on August 17.
Solak continued, "If you can set your watch to Ryans and GM Nick Caserio building a great defense, then the Texans can be a perennial team in the top 10 of these rankings.

Jayden Higgins injured in practice just now. Ugh. Walked off under his own power, but he appeared to be in pain.
Expecting big things from him this season. If he is going to be out a while, that hurts. Hopefully nothing too serious.
