Nice to see CJ throw the ball and it somewhat go in the direction he intended it to go. Hopefully he can get that rookie confidence back

If we can actually take a ton of pressure off CJ with a consistent running game….then yeah, there's cause for optimism

Should have asked for a selfie, then had Montgomery take it of him and the woman.

If we can run the ball like we did on that first drive, I'll be way less worried about replacing Higgins. That looked good. Of course, that was against their backups, so it should look good.

I'm bummed that we're spending all of this money on Teller and Smith to possibly sit the bench while journeyman Evan Brown starts at center, but if it works, so be it.

Well, the Texans signed veterans Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones. Don't know much about them, other than Shepard is 33, and caught 34 balls for Tampa last year.

Jones is 31 and only caught 12 balls for the Cardinals until he had an Achilles injury. Caught 82 balls in '22 for JAX.

Well Bateman just got arrested so we can cross that name off.

Edit: Just saw the Shepard/Jones signings.

The thought that whoever they sign is going to replace the perceived expectations of Higgins is naive…they need a veteran, but you can't expect them to sign a superstar.

A corps that includes Nico, Tank, Noel, Zay Jones and Sterling Shepherd doesn't sound terrible. Monty added to the running game, OL returning in tact. No excuses.

The receiving options are not good. TE is Dalton Schultz. This offense will seriously lack explosive play upside. An opposing defense just needs to plan to double Nico and then contain Monty. Is there confidence that CJ is good enough to execute multiple 10+ play drives for TDs?

I think you are giving a lot of credit by saying it doesn't sound terrible. We don't know what Tank Dell is going to be, two of the other guys we just signed off the scrap heap. Our WR situation is not good.

Also, OL hopefully has been addressed but there's a lot of new faces and so there's not a lot of confidence there either to start.

Defense will carry this team fully, but if they want this offense to do anything, I think they have to go make a trade for a playmaker at WR.

ESPN released an article ranking us as the worst OL in the league. Our WR corps isn't far behind. Going to be a miracle for CJ to operate efficiently this year.
CharleyKerfeld

For the OL, I'd like to think there's a difference between "worst" and "unproven". You'd think halfway through the season Rutledge should be much better than he is right now. Hopefully the bizarre reach on Marlin Klein pays off with a really good blocking TE, since Schultz blocks about as well as I do, and I'm 52 years old.

I'm worried about Stroud obsessing about getting Tank the ball and making more dumb decisions than normal. I'd be very happy if they just run the ball 35 times a game with Montgomery and Woody, throw short stuff to those two, Nico, and Schutlz, and control the clock and let the defense do its thing.

I didn't say it's great.. just saying it doesn't seem too terrible when considering WR corps on other squads around the league. Counting on Nico to stay healthy and Tank to be his old self and stay healthy is a lot though, I agree. We're also counting on David Montgomery and a better run game to help CJ and the passing game.

I'm going to post the ballot for Texans Bingo 2026 after the last preseason games so nobody gets their picks screwed by a preseason injury.

It's going to be rather comprehensive, but hopefully still fun.

Look around the league the only team with a worse skill position offense are the dolphins. Though if they had Waddle that probably wouldnt be true. The Titans might be worse depending on how good Tate is.

The raiders are even (assuming Jeantry is healthy in a few weeks). The Jets are also even.

KC might be close. But they have a better o-line and qb.

That is bleak. I still think they win games i just mean it more from a they need something to really give this offense a chance to move the ball

Sterling Shepherd and Zay Jones could be serviceable though. No other options at this point.

They're a little bit of depth, but we're in major trouble if they have to be more than that.

My guess is that Nick will make a move of some kind of to add a more impactful receiver at some point, but it might come closer to the trade deadline. There might be some player who gets cut who can fill that spot, and maybe Tank comes back at some point early in the season, but I think both of these are doubtful. My guess is that it will take a trade.

Agreed…it also fills a big need and with the way Kalen Ramsey has been playing this preseason at safety, the Texans didn't mind trading Reed.

Haven't seen…probably a day 3 pick…maybe a 5th or 6th.

Indeed, don't mind losing Jaylen Reed, and the rumor it's only a 7th round pick. This also gives them a ton of flexibility if Boutte ends up blowing up, resigning him or letting him move on, get a supplemental pick and have Higgins come back. But Boutte should be a perfect compliment to Nico and be a very good #2

Somehow it's a 2028 7th round pick with Reed per Aaron Wilson

KC's oline isn't all that great.

A qb that can read a blitz and understand protections can make any line look decent.(Mahomes) A qb who can't will make any line look bad (Stroud)

KC wasn't good offensively last year and it had a lot to do with their Oline.

He just waits for any opportunity he can find to talk about CJ. I don't know that I've ever seen him make a post that wasn't about CJ.
