I was wondering the same. The actor sounded like Richard Dreyfuss to me. But i could be off.

And I need to get bulbs like that for my work. Ours only last 400 hours.

I was having trouble figuring that out and felt like it should have been an obvious and noteworthy movie. Felt like they missed an opportunity there but if you're going to have a scene like that, seems like the movie selected would be well thought out.

Last night I thought it was "E.T." because I thought I heard the name "Elliot" in the dialogue, and I heard "Lucy", which I was thinking was Drew Barrymore's character. Nope....her name was Gertie.

Looked it up and it was "The Goodbye Girl" with Richard Dreyfus.

Never seen the movie, so don't know what the significance was...if any.

Screencrush has a good segment on the movie and how it relates.

Interesting. Dreyfuss won an Academy award for Best Actor (1977) for his role in the film.

Good video, but eyeroll at :"capitalism persisting in an age where Capitalism no longer makes sense".

Capitalism always makes sense. As it is merely people acting freely. Socialism, on the other hand, nearly starved the settlement at Jamestown and it was the switch to capitalism that saved it. If socialism failed for a mere 105 people there is no way it would work for a few thousand as depicted in the show. The only scale that socialism really works is at the family level. Where parents bust their ass despite their children being moochers.

Didn't like this one as much as thought I would have.

Pros
- The Native American couple to open the episode, easily. Could have punctuated how good that scene was by making it a cold open, but no biggie. They were funny, informative, and tonally perfect in this universe.
- The cinematography outside of the Jackson scenes.
- The Joel/Ellie exchange in the bedroom.

Cons
- Ellie for the first 70% of the episode. After IMO the best Ellie episode all series, I found her character to be insufferable for most of this episode. Not a knock on Bella Ramsey as much as it's a knock on the script; the cursing, the standoffishness, the general *******ry of her character - whole time I was like please STFU.
- The Tommy reunion felt anticlimactic. It wasn't like it was super drawn out in the game, but it all seemed really undercooked in terms of not just emotional payoff, but backstory fill-in.
- The last 10-15 minutes felt rushed.

OMG, same. She was so stinking obnoxious.

Really enjoyable episode. Would love for them to get to rest and settle down in Jackson, but then we wouldn't have the conflict needed to make it an interesting show.

And of course Joel lives. How is that even a question? There are two main characters who carry the show, they aren't killing one off with multiple episodes to go.

IMO, Joel carries the entire show. Ellie could get killed, but I'd still want to see what happens to Joel. If Joel gets killed, I'd want Ellie to off herself with Joel's rifle.

What?? Ellie is the entire point of the show and it's possible resolution

Really recommend the podcast from last night. They've all been good, but this one was especially.

Interesting trivia, the cover of Never Let Me Down Again was done by shower runner Craig Marzin's daughter.

You have to admit, she is DAMN annoying. Tess was a strong female character, and I liked her.

And one of my favorite characters of all time was Catherine Martin from Silence of the Lambs (the girl in the well). She didn't just sit there and let herself get killed. She freaking took his dog hostage. Total badass.

Ellie is a teenage girl growing up after the apocalypse.

Character is exactly what I'd expect her to be because she's not mature. That's the entire point.

Also lived her entire life in a quarantine zone. This is her first time out in the big city

I mean she's traveling across the continent facing zombies and murderers to try to deliver a cure that would help everyone else BUT her.

I think she deserves some slack that she's a sarcastic teenager at times.

No one is giving Joel **** for being an emotionally constipated ******* a lot of the time.

nit picky thing I couldn't unsee... The commune's murderous scout party just happened to bring along a multiple month pregnant woman on horseback that recognized Joel, but they also had two extra saddled horses so Joel and Ellie could ride back to the commune.

I disagree. I think she is like transplanting a modern teenager into year 20 of an apocalypse. I think one who grew up in the apocalypse her entire life would be much different. Far more serious, quiet, 1000 yard stare, etc. Could you imagine a teenager in Schindler's List acting like her? Me neither.

Joel's personality makes total sense. I think it's spot on.

I think it would make more sense if she was uptight (like Joel), but that he wished that she wasn't like him. That she was more "teenagery" like his daughter was beforehand.

Really liked that there weren't any zombies in this episode. Drove home the point that in a world with actual zombies other people are still the main threat to most peoples safety.

She grew up in an American compound with access to comics and other media with minimal parental influences on her life. She's gonna curse like a sailor and be annoying as ***** Both places may be run by nazis but its not a concentration camp.

That compound looks like it REALLY sucked. That was sorta the point. They wanted to show how bad FEDRA was compared to Jackson. Hell KC revolted over it and killed all the FEDRA troops and killed everybody who collaborated. Prior to the show, she killed at least one person, and killed another on screen. That's not a life of teddy bears and rainbows.

I definitely caught that in real time (at least the horses for Joel/Ellie) but I think there's more at play here...

#1 she's one of the elected leaders of the community so it makes sense that she would be present when they are making a determination on whether or not to allow someone to come back to the compound.

#2 Yes, she's pregnant. She's not on ****ing hospice or something. You don't magically lose all ability to be a functioning human being just because you are nearing the end of your first trimester.

#3 that she recognized Joel is a bit of a stretch except for the whole fact that pictures still exist; it's easy enough to handwave Tommy having a picture of Joel and his daughter that he kept in his wallet or something.

Now the extra horses, that definitely stood out to me on first watch. I'm not sure it's accurate though after checking the episode again.

17:35 - 11 riders make up the posse. I'm also not sure whether or not this includes the dude who brought the dog because the dog is not in frame.
20:00 - 11 riders return to the town (now including Joel + Ellie). It's highly likely that 2 of the riders will be either be walking back or were left to make sure that no one is following Joel & Ellie. They can always send a rider back with extra horses for them.

I don't think this was a case of simply conjuring two new horses out of thin air.

I don't think she recognized Joel, did she? He said he was looking for his brother and that is what got her attention.

That's how I took it. And I'm sure despite the actors not looking that much alike, there's supposed to be some kind of familial resemblance.
