So why did Kathleen shoot the doctor? I didnt fully understand that? Was she just mad and wanted to take out her anger on him? Thinks he had something to do with the deaths of her people?

I think we got dropped into the middle of this story with Kathleen, who clearly has some sort of grudge against Henry and she thinks the doctor knows where he is. After Joel kills Bryan she seemed to think Henry hired Mercs and in her rage then shot him. I suspect we will get more flashbacks next week

I also found it strange how Joel went through KC instead of taking an alternate route. He knows he needs to stay out of cities to avoid trouble. If he needs to restock on gas and supplies, he can go to smaller towns. Too risky to go through a big city, as this episode made clear.

but I know, it probably happens in the game and if he cruised all the way to Wyoming without issue it would be boring.

Maybe shows shouldn't put pathetic women in charge? Then people wouldn't be distracted by it? Imagine if they made it a 10 year old kid instead. Even YOU would be talking about how stupid it was.

I think your posting history *finally* makes sense, seeing as the only explanation is that you're posting from a computer you stole from your future and brought back to the 1950s with you.
Talk about being triggered.

Doesn't matter if we are talking 1200s, 1950s, 2020s, or 2200s. Women are weaker than men and are less suited for combat due to millions of years of evolution. It's nothing to do with "misogyny" You can't close your eyes and pretend that wasn't the case.
who cares though? why nitpick? when you are saying "well ahkckshually..." for every "unrealistic" thing in the show it's just going to ruin the show for you.
Why do you guys care about this "nitpick"? Nobody batted an eye when I said, Joel should have driven on the other side of the highway. It's only when a nitpick ventures into what you guys consider to be "political" that you get all up in arms. Why is one nitpick okay and another a travesty?

People have a different opinion than you. Deal with it.

They only way I see this lady having taken power is if she is the mother of 5 or 6 meatheads who keep everyone else in line or she possesses some form of knowledge that is imperative to their survival, elevating her to that position. Outside of that, it's silly.

I'm willing to see the next episode before judging, assuming we will get a back story. If we are given nothing, then this was not a good choice.

well... they technically aren't zombies right? they are infected by cordyceps which makes them similar to zombies, but really they are living humans infected by a fungus.

which makes this show even scarier, knowing there is a theoretical possibility of a fungal infection sweeping through humanity and altering their minds.

could also see it being nepotism. Maybe her dad was in charge and he died?

Lol... this thread is hilarious. All the same arguments from both sides. Someone makes a criticism citing something the left-sided thinkers bristle up about, so those people attack the others and claim they are intolerable simply because they gave their opinion.

Personal attacks are then responded to because the left-sided thinkers can't believe others don't appreciate personal attacks. The people responding to the personal attacks are then accused of being trolls and being argumentative.

We even have the old adage, "it's just fiction, bro. Why can't you suspend belief?" Just about the most ridiculous argument to anything because it's basically conceding the point but saying it's okay because it's just a story. If that's the case, then you can't criticize anything about the story because it's just fiction.

Again, it's hardly ever the critique itself. It ultimately doesn't matter to me if someone thinks the actress probably wasn't right for the role, or even that a woman might not be in charge. For the hundredth time, it's the WAY in which their opinions are expressed, as if whatever happened in any given show/movie is The Worst Thing To Ever Happen. It's outrage for the sake of outrage, usually with a tinge of virtue signaling to boot. We were having a normal, constructive back and forth until aTmAg and a couple others did the usual thing of having to let us us know just how aggrieved they are. They weren't simply "critiques." It was performative outrage. And then just like always, you come along to play defense attorney for them by giving a distorted view of what actually happened, as if somehow above it all. Rinse and repeat.

Quick question: Were we given a reason for their existence, within the fantasy world we are presented?

I had to look her up as she looked vaguely familliar. I only remember her from playing a paedophile in Perks of Being a WallFlower.

I wonder if the point was to have a soft looking woman in the role.

Would we be having this discussion of Terminator 2 Linda Hamilton was playing the role?

Ya i only knew her from 2 and a Half Men lol so my basis wasn't much better. And ya, if I'm being honest, she doesn't have the 'physical presence' to support the role she's in. She is soft. From her voice to the way she walks/carries herself...like, I'm hardly a gun expert but even the way she threatened the Doctor with a gun seemed farcical. It has nothing to do with her being a woman, it's just about her playing this 'mustache twirling' ruthless villain that is just so absurd for the actor. There's no weight behind her. Like when she says "find the collaborators and kill them all" I wanted to laugh.

I never once doubted Marlene as the leader of the Fireflies. Or Tess as the alpha in Joel/smuggling operation. So to me, it has nothing to do with her gender, just her overall...aesthetic in contrast to the role.
THIS is how you make the argument.

Agreed. All good points.

That has to be SOME backstory.

To me it's clear that they are setting her up for a fall. They went out of their way to make her weak. But of course, she would never find herself there in the first place. Not in a way that isn't eyerolling. Maybe they will prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think it's WAY too early to criticize Militia Rose yet. We don't know anything about her background or how she got into the position she is now. And we know hardly anything about the group or how the hierarchy works.

All the outrage is a bit premature right now. She got to her position somehow and I'm sure we'll find out. There are countless things that could be going on here.

I really enjoyed the episode.

Yea exactly, this episode in particular felt the most 'video game-y' in a bad way. It's hard to be invested in this part of the story because we all know ultimately the plot dictates Joel and Ellie have to keep going to reach their ultimate destination. Obviously that doesn't mean we can't get some great character development along the way, but I'm not really psyched to waste time defusing whatever drama exists in this specific QZ between Henry and the rebel leader. Just a side quest delaying the actual story.

The director flat out admitted to their woke ulterior motive in Ep3. Why would it surprise you here?

Edit: and BTW, I didn't say anything after Ep1 when they had that woman in charge of the Boston fireflies. I was able to suspend that.
