Sure, but seems like kinda wasted time to really flesh out a character for just a single episode.
So, I'm not a zombie nor a video game guy and only started this series because I like Pascal, the kid from GOT, and guns. But, years ago I did read World War Z on a recommendation. I loved it so much I read it twice and years later passed it off to my teenage sons to read and they loved it. Unlike the movie, the book is a series of basically stand alone chapters. Most of the chapters tell a very compelling story from the perspective of one individual. It's why so many thought WWZ should have been a series, not a movie.Proc92 said:

I definitely would have been thankful for a spoiler on this episode and fast forwarded to the end. Instead I had to fast forward through to the end. The letter was important.

My wife and I literally stumbled in to each other at a time when we were recent A&M grads, single, lonely, and it just took off there. 25+ years later our lives remain so completely intertwined we'd be lost without each other. I was hospitalized for a week in August and she spent every night sleeping on that crappy "kinda bed" in my room. I can't even find words for what that level of kindness from the one you love feels like. That was my take away. Very relatable story telling.
Good connection. I too always recommend World War Z to anyone who hasn't read it, and have to explain it is NOTHING like the movie.Urban Ag said:So, I'm not a zombie nor a video game guy and only started this series because I like Pascal, the kid from GOT, and guns. If they do it right, and they did in episode 3, IMO, it will make the series that much better.

So far we've gotten the following named characters:
Joel
Tommy
Sarah
Tess
Ellie
Bill
Frank
2 out of 7 have been gay, so 28% of the characters.
As more and more characters get introduced, assuming they're straight, that percentage will continue to go down.
What "level" does that need to get to to be realistic for you?

At it's core, making a long marriage/relationship really work necessarily requires a lot of patience, kindness, forgiveness, and ultimately vulnerability. Especially true when you have to accept the fact you're not young anymore and have to allow yourself that vulnerability to let your partner care for you when you can't do it alone.
I thought the writers and actors pulled that reality off masterfully.
Agree completely. I often roll my eyes at sex scenes in any movie or show because 9 times out of 10 they are gratuitous and cheesy. This time around at first I thought it felt forced but after watching the whole episode and digesting it I think every scene with Bill and Frank was important. One Louder said:
They couldn't have chosen a better song than "Long, Long Time". I had forgotten how haunting and lovely it is.
I agree with some on here about usually rolling my eyes when there's a gay/trans character in a show who serves no purpose other than to represent diversity. But this was so well-done in terms of acting and writing (in combination with the song used), it just became a love story. Not a romance, but a love story.
I also consider most sex scenes in shows to be gratuitous (regardless of who's involved) but the scene in bed was not graphic and it helped explain so much about the dynamic.
Didn't realize that. I did think Dark Quiet Death was better, but that one was excellent as wellFtWorthHorn said:It will not surprise you to know that the author of "Backstory!" the one about CW, is...Craig Mazin.BowSowy said:This reminds me of the episode that Mythic Quest has every season. One episode that tells a bit of backstory but expands on it in a grand way. Sure, it's largely irrelevant to the overarching story, and could've just been a couple of scenes. But it expands on that and tells a great story. I knew the gay aspect of that story would not be well received here, but I think that was a beautiful story of a love grown old.joerobert_pete06 said:
I found myself fast forwarding through several portions of that episode. I feel like most of that was unnecessary and put there for an alternative purpose.

I'll admit the episode took me outside of my comfort zone regarding gay stuff. I could have done with less man kissing. But the story was beautifully written, told, and acted. Really well done.

Not to criticize, it just blows my mind that it makes anyone THAT uncomfortable. Its not like you're seeing them naked gettinf after it. It's just lips meeting….
It's just mind blowing to me that you'd let that affect such an awesome episode. I can't imagine being upset at two people kissing as long as they're consenting adults…. Just bizarre.
It's mind blowing to me that people can't accept the fact that others would prefer not to see certain things. I also don't want to see two ugly fat people have sex. Some of us do not find it to be a pleasant experience.BallerStaf2003 said:Ol Jock 99 said:

A straight person being uncomfortable at the visual site of two gay people engaging in physical relations on screen is one thing, and I totally get that. Granted, then choosing to voice that disgust on the internet is beyond immature, and the stuff of teenagers in the mid-'00s, but I understand the core, gut reaction. That said, for a sizable chunk of those complaining about the inclusion of a gay relationship in this series (or any other media), it doesn't stop there. It's more than a wince or finding it physically unpleasant. It's all this agenda/grooming nonsense that they endlessly spout, driven by a core belief that being gay is a sin, thus they don't want that sin "celebrated" in the media they consume or pushed on their children in Disney movies or whatever. When, in reality, their ranting is nothing more than over-the-top, anti-woke nonsense that sees gay people and their actions as "wrong," something they fail to realize is their opinion, not a fact. THAT'S what most of us here have a problem with.
But, as another poster already said, you completely missed the point of his post just to make your "i'm a gay ally" statement. He literally said "the story was beautifully written, told, and acted. Really well done." How did that make it sound like he was "upset"?
Baller is *actually* gay - not just an ally - so I completely understand if he takes this subject more personal than most. Especially on a site like TexAgs.
The hyperbole by some of you just looking to be offended by the opinions of others...

Regardless of them being gay and how great the episode was, watching Ron Swanson making out with a homeless person was not how I was expecting to spend my Sunday evening.
Before it started, I had no idea if I was picking up romantic, murderous, or zombie vibes from the guy, but I knew something big was about to go down.
