Night is one color: black. You can shoot for hours and not have to worry about the sun being in different positions, different lighting, cloud cover, etc.
It's also good for angering crotchety old men such as yourself.
This looks so awesome and fantastical. This whole series could be fan service like Endgame.
I wonder if it is too bizarre to draw in casual viewers. Nevermind. I KNOW it's too bizarre unless word of mouth draws them in later.

Damon Lindelof is calling it a "remix," whatever the hell that means. But all indications point to the events of the comic having happened, and this is basically 30 years or so later. That said, Lindelof refuses to call it a "sequel." And no, it is not officially tied to the movie.
True. In my day when we watched TV you could see what was happening.
That trailer was hard to watch and not interesting. Could be an epic fail.

*Idk, I guess it could be interesting to experiment with a fantasy world where there's no internet so you see tensions build out in the physical world. We have some history of that with the domestic strife of the 60's and 70's.

I'm disappointed but not entirely surprised that HBO would permit this. The problem is no American audience wants to be politically preached at, they want to be entertained. At best it's controversial and at worst you immediately alienate and cut out half your potential audience from the get go. Besides it being a dead horse beaten trope, characterizing middle America as conservative and therefore racist will not guarantee the coastal audiences will double up viewership either. They would see the played out trope as well.
Say what you will but people watch fictional shows to be entertained, hence why HBO's best shows have always focused on the plot and production over the "message", Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers, Chernobyl, Rome, John Adams, etc...
Regardless of all politics I'm really peeved that they would butcher Rorshach's legacy in this one, that being that that truth is paramount and persistent even over doomsday. Think about it, you take the best character from the original story and make his "followers" white supremacists. In what fictitious world is that even possible? Only if the show makers either misunderstood the character or perversed what he stood for to begin with. I was really looking forward to this show but now I've dialed it back to cautious. If this really is the main theme I can't imagine being entertained for very long.

I said on another thread that I was confused and disappointed by that trailer. Having caught up on this tread I now see why.
The original was so tied into Cold War paranoia that I don't think it makes sense in any other context (which is why the movie didn't work for some people) .

Yeah, I am not down for spending free time watching a narrative where "white man bad" is a key theme.
I'll give the pilot a shot purely based on the Watchmen brand, but given DL's prior work (none of his stuff impressed me) I will be shocked if I make it through the whole season.

While I love the work he did on Nash Bridges (which we can all agree was the pinnacle of cop shows), I worry that there will be a lack of blue peen in this show

I believe that the bad guys in the book were not Neo-Nazis.
Ah, that makes sense. I thought the Nazis mainly wanted revenge against Russia and the US for WW2 so they goaded both into fighting each other. Nazis make easy bad guys...
claude is correct. The bad guys in the book is a Palestinian terror group. The only "connection" to "nazis" in the book is an East German scientist (east, meaning communist) who seeks revenge on both the US (for defeating the USSR) and Russia (for betraying world socialism).Quote:

There is no white nationalist or neo nazi antagonist in the book. Hollywood rewrote the political thriller and aimed the target at white men. Because God forbid you put Palestinians in a bad light (proper light).

WTF did I just watch?
That was suuuuuper weird and random... but I'm absolutely in. I just kept going back and forth between "Whoa, that's cool" to "What is happening?" to "How on earth does this show exist?" The preview for the episodes ahead looked amazing. I need to see another episode or two, though, before can wrap my head around this thing and really know what I think...
