I'm going to go down in flames here, but I want it known that I very much enjoyed the movie. I've read the novel and all the prequel stuff as well. Hell, I even read the pirate mirror story several times.
You're not alone. Save for a couple casting choices, I love the movie as well, own it on Blu-ray, and find myself watching parts of it here and there whenever it's on TV. It's a damn good movie with a few missteps.
I thought the movie was great. I understand why some didn't like it, but it was well done.
Read the book, saw the movie and loved it.

Between that and the Infinity Stones discussion, I worry about your memory. You're not as old as me (I don't think) so you don't have that excuse.
Ha, it's superhero movies. I'm just kind of tired of them in general, don't care as much as I used to, and thus don't really keep track like I used to. That's it. Let's talk Oscar movies or Star Wars or the Mission: Impossible franchise and my memory is a steel trap.
Haven't seen any of the OScar movies except Dunkirk. Way behind on the Star Wars flicks. And need to catch up on the IM's before the new one gets here.
Lindelof just posted a massive, five-page letter to fans - re: his take on the material - and I am ALL IN for whatever he has in store. I love the way he's framing his approach and engaging the audience. This is clearly coming from a place of deep passion and respect and now all I want is for this thing to be awesome and succeed.
Also, I'd imagine that casting news is just around the corner and that this is to partly/essentially get out in front of it as they gear up to shoot the pilot, which is apparently imminent. HBO still hasn't greenlit the series - it's all contingent on them seeing the pilot - but at this point it'd take a massive screw up for them not to order it to series. Fingers crossed...

What do you think he means that it's not a "sequel" but that everything that happened in the comic is canon? How is it not a sequel if everything that happened previously still happened. Or is that his way of calling it what he wants to call it?
So are they playing the original characters? I guess Regina King is Silk Spectre? Don Johnson is The Comedian? Tim Blake Nelson is Rohrshach?

It's a combination of new and old characters. My guess is, out of this batch, is half new half old, but it's anyone's guess.

His report isn't super detailed, but Lindelof said it takes place during our time, and that the events of the comics are canon. Yeah, I don't quite get it either. Though, I'm betting it IS a "sequel" - as all signs point to that - and Lindelof just doesn't want to use that exact word for whatever reason.
If you have the time, read Lindelof's five-page letter to fans I posted above from Instagram yesterday. It's vague, but also somewhat informative.
Not sure I'm buying Don Johnson as old Ozymandias
