Intriguing concept (cancer/meth) but that first season (almost 2 seasons) of BB were really boring.

You can always tell who binge-watched Breaking Bad and who actually watched it week-by-week from the very beginning.

The most intriguing moments of BB were subtle, dialogue-driven scenes that involved no murders, no meth, and no excitement. What made BB the best show on television were the little things that "exciting" shows would never think of doing and were unnoticeable to people who binge-watched the show.

Better Call Saul is the same way. As demonstrated in this thread, what makes BCS one of the best shows on TV is a little pink baby toy, an old lady's lift chair, and a conversation between a lawyer and 2 cops in an interrogation room about a nerd sitting fully clothed in pie. None of these things really affect the plot, none are exciting at all, 2 are practically unnoticeable, and only one was remotely entertaining...but they are examples of why BB was the best show ever made and why BCS is well on it's way to being in that same conversation.

The best parts of BB & BCS are the week-long discussion between episodes and 10-month long discussion between seasons. These discussions make things like delivering newspapers and working in a toll booth fascinating. They enhance the show 100 times over, and their absence is why binge-watchers think BB's first 2 seasons were boring.

Looks like next week we get another character from BB. This show is good.

I binge watched BB and didn't think the first 2 seasons were boring.

Thanks for telling me what to think is exciting and why. What a chode comment.

You have zero clue why I thought it was boring. But if you NEED a week of Internet forum discussion for the show to be good/powerful/entertaining, then it might be missing something.

And my favorite show of all time is The Wire. Just that fact alone should tell you I know a few things about a TV show's attention to detail and how to appreciate them.

The BB fanboy was saying that I shouldn't have been bored with BB seasons one and two because of the murders/meth/cancer etc. He was the one saying I shouldn't have been bored because of all that (I never brought that up). It was boring because it was boring. Admittedly it got much better as the series went on....

Just for the record, The Wire season one was pretty boring as well...up until episode 8 or 9. Boring doesn't necessarily mean bad TV. It can be good TV and be boring.

Well I've been watching BB on a month to month basis. So there's that. I'm literally on season 2 right. Take that week to week watchers.

It's amazing that people can't sense the irony in their own words.

I binge watched BB and I thought the first 2 seasons were not boring at all. But I'm not a fan of the Transformer movies though, so that might explain it.

I binge watched the first 4 seasons of BB and never once did I think it was boring.

Well played. I deserved that.

I've slept on it so let me back up and rephrase.

Maybe boring is the wrong word. I thought it was a long slow play. Similar to the way BCS has begun, it was subtle, detailed, and wasn't a "thrill a minute" type ride (as opposed to how it ended). It wasn't supposed to be, and I can appreciate that. I've loved BCS so far, but I'm of the opinion that BB started slower than BCS.....and I've enjoyed both.

Complete Idiot:

It was my personal opinion that season 1 and 2 of BB started off slow/boring. Maybe I misread et98's comment, but it seemed like he was trying to tell me why BB was above my head, I should view it the way he does, and the comment came across as snobbish. My comments about BB being boring/slow early-on were not made to try and convince someone else to have the same opinion. I get that some people loved the early pacing and they're entitled to their 2 cents.

There were some episodes of BB that I thought were a little slow or where I missed some references, but I stuck with it. I never felt bored.

You caught me. I was bored with that episode on the initial viewing. Had forgotten about that momentarily.

I went back and re-read my comment and I can see why it came across as a little rude, so I apologize for the confusion. I wasn't trying to imply that it was over your head, I was simply saying that binge watching makes viewers miss things. Also, watching as it airs means you have no idea where it's going, which leads to a much higher level of suspense.

When watching the 1st ep of BB, all I knew about the show was that Malcolm In the Middle's dad plays a science teacher who starts dealing meth. That's literally all anyone knew. Ep 1 opened with 2 guys in gas masks driving (the passenger was unconscious or dead) speeding through the desert in an RV with what appeared to be dead bodies sloshing around in a few inches of liquid in the back of the RV. Then Malcolm's dad jumped out in underwear and nearly blew his brains out as the sirens neared.

For viewers who'd heard about BB for a few years and were wanting to catch up to the present day where Walt was blowing up nursing homes and orchestrating prison murders, this opening scene was probably dull. But for those of us who knew nothing at all about this show other than Malcolm's dad was a teacher who's going to start selling meth, that scene blew our ****ing minds!!!

For those who binge-watched as Jesse blew Gale's brains out at the end of season 3 and went immediately into the aftermath of season 4, it was probably a pretty interesting chain of events. But for those who watched those eps as they aired, they experienced 13 months of grueling analysis of one of the greatest cliffhangers in recent memory. Did Jesse really shoot Gale? Did he point the gun away at the last second? There were about 20 pages of posts on Texags about that one 5-second scene. We looked at countless pictures, replayed it over and over, listened to that haunting tea kettle whistle and the opera playing in the background over and over to try and figure it all out. Then there was 13 months of "what happens next?" and hundreds of predictions.

With all that said, I must agree that there was probably too much down time early on. Too much Walt Jr eating breakfast. Too much Skylar being a *****. Too much Hank looking at rocks.

Now that you've all kissed and made up can we get back to Better Call Saul?

If you wanna talk about BB season 1-2 start a new thread. This is a BCS thread so let's all try and keep it on track.

Even though I didn't start watching until after Season 4 had finished, I had no idea what I was in store for when I started binge watching BB other than the very basic plot of the story. Maybe I'm a rare case, though.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess the next couple episodes are gonna take it up a notch.

I don't think it's going to be a happy ending for the guy that hired Mike somehow. Tuco is gonna find out what he has been doing on the side and put the kibosh on him.

I went into the show knowing absolutely nothing, and the first episode was f-ing amazing. I watched the first season in the few months before Season 2 started, and it was such an enjoyable ride not having any idea where this was going.

And it was great seeing the show go from an underrated, little-known show that slowly became a cult hit, to the full-blown phenomenon it became in the last year.

People often say they wish they could wipe their memory and re-watch a show, and this is absolutely the case for me with BB. Best viewing experience I've ever had watching a tv show. (Though LOST is a close second.)

Mike just asked him, figuring if he'd treat someone with a gunshot wound for cash under the table he probably was into other questionable activities as well. How he got hooked up with him for treatment in the first place is a bit hazy.
