I remember saying at one point that TFA would outgross FF in Thursday showings alone.

I was right, by $1 million.

$325 m puts it up to 40th all-time. It was 68th yesterday. It passed Empire, Jedi, and Attack of the Clones all on Tuesday.

Ff was shown on a flight recently and I was so uninterested I'm seeing it that I watch a few episodes of twin peals on my phone instead.

If it makes $30M today, it'll move past Furious 7, Two Towers, Mockingjay Pt 1, etc, for #30.

I don't understand why this would bother you.

Do you get upset when you read a fictional story and a character is described as a stereotype?

The lumping together and his asinine belief that NRA members are all rednecks is silly. Of course, the hippie morons who wrote the story had a tree spirit rally the wildlife to defeat the evil humans and massive swaths of the fans of the show were despondent that Pandora was fictional and they couldn't live there.

If he called for a "millennial, think skinned, safe spacing, faux-intellectual SJW," would that bother you?

There are many kinds of rednecks. There are many kinds of nra members.

Redneck nra members brings to mind a specific type of person that I would expect to see cast in this role.

It seems like effective screen writing to me.

You do understand that he was looking for a specific type of character, right?

He wasn't calling all NRA members rednecks.

The entire purpose of describing a character is to bring that character to life for the audience and to tell your story. By asking for "Redblooded, Redneck, NRA supporters", a pretty clear image was drawn.

Tell me, would you have a problem with this description?

"Butch looking lesbian that supports code pink"

I'm going to guess probably not since that fits your stereotype of that type of character.

TL;DR, the issue isn't how the character is described, it is you taking it personal.

The cast he got were you're basic uneducated, backwoods miners. Pretty rough around the edges, uncouth. That example, to me, elicits the same type of extra they were looking for without using a derogatory term. That's all.

5 days in, $689M worldwide, sitting at #81.

Should move up to at least the 30s by the end of this weekend.

I saw titanic in a crowded theater in New Year's Eve. By that point I felt like I had to.

Aside, remember that the success of titanic had a direct effect on the hype surrounding the phantom menace. Star Wars special edition released in 1997 which added to the grand total of Star Wars. Then this ****ing love story propelled by teenage girls comes
Out of nowhere to become the biggest grossing movie of all time. So by spring 1999 there was a lot of pressure built in the anticipation by the fan boys to see phantom menace many times and beat titanic It was a culture war.

I remember going to see Titanic in either its first or second weekend. Was there with a bunch of family and nobody had heard anything about it. I don't remember the theater being too full.

I don't specifically remember any of the subsequent viewings except the last one, it was in Mexico in a fairly packed theater and it was pretty deep into its run, probably March or April.

I do know for a fact I saw it at least 4 times.

Tuesday at 3:45. People in line a little under an hour before... 10 min til showtime and there are now around 100 people in the theater with more still coming. Probably 125-150 when the movie starts. On a Tuesday!

It's a machine!

I think the real question that no one is asking here is how many times would Fox have to re-release Fantastic 4 to equal this one Star Wars movie?

It could run continuously for the next 100 years and it wouldn't make what TFA makes in a month.

Looked up the total gross for all three FFs. $342M.

TFA will beat that today.

I remember seeing Titanic in theaters on Super Bowl Sunday. We went to a showing right after church so we could be home in plenty of time for the game. We walked out of the theater afterwards and the line for the showing that was 4:00ish was wrapped around the building.

That was after it had been out for six weeks and the showtime was during the Super Bowl.

Unbelievable.

I saw Titanic on opening day, first showing. I was a huge Cameron fan after True Lies and T2, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

The film reel was so big (3 1/2 hour movie) that it fell off the projector right after the ship split in half.

I had to come back the next day to see the last 30 minutes and find out who lived and who died.

Titanic and Avatar had staying power I'm not sure Star Wars can match. I can't see this still playing once the summer movies start coming. But it should still be at 1 billion by then.

it would be incredibly fitting for SW to be the first $1 billion box office movie.

I'd probably watch it again this summer if it were still playing. I think Star Wars is going to have legs.

Despite being off on my days, this showing was dang impressive. It wasn't a full theater like the 7:00 Thursday showing from last week, but it was a packed house at a 3:45 Wednesday show. There were a few spaces here and there, but even the less than ideal front rows were full. 150+ people for sure and when I left the lines for the next showing were full of people.

Only time will tell how long it goes, but for now it's making money at a record pace. At this rate I see it going strong though new years next week. I won't be surprised to see it approach 1 Billion by next weekend.

Titanic and Avatar had a very similar wide release date, so it will be interesting to watch. Jan-Mar is usually a dead period for major cinema, and it really takes until the first weekend in May to pick up.

So SW has a chance at huge numbers for a while
