I'll probably sneak into an Atmos early showing on Sunday for my second watch.

So if this breaks $250m this weekend (looking likely), to put that into perspective, Hobbit 2 and 3 made $258m and $255m in their ENTIRE domestic runs.

Can this thing bust Avatar? Such a **** movie to hold so many records.

We'll have a much better idea by next weekend. It's gonna hinge on repeat viewing and getting the female demographic.

At a 930 2D showing and it's almost sold out. I imagine most of the shows will be like this. This is the 2nd showing at this cinemark.

I'm looking at the showtimes for the theater I'm going to tonight. 12:30 showing is already sold out, as are all IMAX showings (through 10:30 pm).

If it were any other movie, you'd expect the drop on Saturday to be pretty sizeable after such a huge Friday, but in this case I think it may not drop much at all considering kids weren't out of school yesterday.

Most of those 9:00 shows are added shows, probably.

Currently, Saturday is expected to fall 45% from Friday. But much of that hinges on how much walk-up business Force Awakens gets. PER DEADLINE.

Disney puts Friday at $120m. Biggest Saturday is Jurassic World with $69m.

I'm thinking it could do $80m today, which would be a 33% drop. A 45% drop would put it at $66m, but I do not see that happening the way things are looking right now.

My guesstimate for today would be $75m-$80m.

who knows. But industry people are commenting how tickets sales for today are down (presales) and that today is one of two BIG travel/shopping days before Christmas. Finally many comments about people thinking it will be crowded/huge lines and delaying their watching until later next week.

4TH UPDATE, SATURDAY AM PT: After adding Spain and Japan on Friday, Star Wars: The Force Awakens now has an international cume estimated at $129.5M. Coupled with domestic, that brings the crew of the Millennium Falcon to a massive $250M worldwide in just the first three days of play. The Friday was worth $56.8M offshore a notch down from Jurassic World's first Friday of $60M this summer. But, the two films are now neck-and-neck at the same point in their runs with JW having stomped on $130M overseas through its first Friday. And that movie had China, going on to gross just over $316M for the debut frame. Initial estimates on the international debut weekend for the Resistance and the First Order ranged anywhere from $250M-$315M ahead of the release. Some industry sources are now suggesting upwards of $320M.





Interesting that, to date, it is trailing overseas vs JW (granted barely, but SW had a lot more domestic hype that JW).

It won't be released in India until the 25th and China in January. That may keep it from overtaking JW initially, but it'll blow past it eventually.

Yup, China is the difference here. The fact that it's so close without it is impressive.

I don't think it'll outgross JW in China simply because it's not a hugely popular property there, but in the other markets I think it will.

Starting to think it doesn't catch Avatar though.

Anecdotal but just got a text from some friends at the imax in Ontario, that the line for the 1:30 showing was around the door. Went to the same theater yesterday about the same time and didn't have near that many people in the theater.

Just got to the theater for my second viewing and the theater is doing something I've never seen. All but one door are closed for entry, and there's a guy at the door asking what showtime you're here for, then he says what time to come in and line up.

Seems like they're only letting people in an hour before their respective showtimes to line up, and are making an effort to avoid people coming out running into people coming in. Probably for spoilers , pretty cool of them.

I've never seen this theater do this. They really planned things for this one.

Try 4am and 7am at the local imax, did the second showing at 7am

So this should lock up Harrison Ford as the highest grossing actor of all time

Seems like Saturday was way down. Deadline saying $60 million.

Should still get the opening record but not by much.

Disney as well as other sources are reporting that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is currently coming in on the conservative side of projections with a $220M weekend opening, which would still be an all-time record beating Jurassic World's $208.8M. Peg that to softer Saturday matinees, however, evening shows could swing these figures higher.

Yet Samuel L Jackson is officially the highest grossing actor of all time.

SLJ is awesome but he is not a leading actor.
