Also, this will hang around for a while. I know of a few people just waiting until the crowds subside to go see it.

I also know others who've seen it more than once that want another viewing.

I don't see the steady lingering that Cameron movies have displayed, but I don't see a meteoric rise then fall you see in other films. This will be in theaters well beyond Q1.

I'm in the group, and I am definitely not alone, that will see it sometime in February or March before it's gone from theaters for sure.

There will be a nice trend all the way until the end I think.

I'll be heading back for a second viewing soon. The wife wants to go with, so we're sitting through the original three first, since she's only seen bits of them and remembers very little. Starting ROTJ tonight.

The Imax today was pretty full. Not packed, but a good size crowd for a 1+ month old movie.

Viewing 3 for me was very enjoyable! And the 3d Imax was really well done.

And for what it's worth, TFA has actually beat Titanic worldwide if you don't count the re-release. But then again that's not adjusted for inflation, so it's a moot point.

Took my dad to see it yesterday. It is showing only in one of the smaller auditoriums but it seemed to be about half full.

Haven't been keeping up with this like some of you, so maybe this has been explained... but I just don't have any idea how Star Wars cannot beat Avatar for highest grossing movie of all time.

SW:TFA crushed it in domestically (US box office 900 million to 760 million)....international audiences are a different beast altogether.

SW did not have the international appeal as broadly as it has in the US...because the originals were not released in many places back in 1977-1983 and the prequels (which more countries saw) were not as good.

Thus far SW:TFA has barely passed half as much internationally (1.1 billion) as Avatar (2.0 billion).

Doesn't matter anyway, the domestic box office is still the barometer.

Avatar was a monster over seas. Most of the world is liberal and never heard of Fern Gully, Dances with Wolves or Pocahontas.

I love Avatar and the reason I brought it up is because many people in the US hate it because they see it as liberal agenda. How many times has that been brought up on this board alone?

If past history holds, it will be interesting to see how Ep VIII does overseas versus at home. Domestically I think you can expect Ep VIII to fall short of the VII box office. However, it could do better overseas than VII did because it will be a property growing in notariety. You also wonder if they'll hold back the release in China or not.
