Girls love the idea of killing their boyfriend due to their own selfishness. So girls would literally go see that movie every week. I knew girls that saw it 10+ times.

The sinking of the Titanic is one of the most famous historical tragedies of all time, and that was before the movie. You had this connection of England and the US, bloodlines that trace back to people on the boat, a sort of "aristocratic" class of people on board, and a lot of survivors to talk about it afterwards.

Then Cameron created a visual epic chronicling the ship's voyage, and intertwined stories of love, class conflict, hope, sacrifice, etc.

It literally connected to every female age 10 to 120. Once they saw it, lived it, imagined themselves on it, they took friends, family, and ultimately husbands and men came along in high numbers as well.

It was the perfect storm for a masterpiece and box office sensation

I was giving you crap but I actually like Titanic. The underwater scenes when searching for the boat were amazing. Nobody does underwater film making better than Cameron. The love story is awful, but once the ship starts to sink, it's really cool.

Yesterday's $38M tops the list of non-opening Wednesdays, with Transformers being a distant second with $29M (on its second day of release).

Assuming the movie hits $500M and then follows the exact same trajectory as Avengers 1 (actual numbers, not percentage drops), TFA would hit $750M. So at this point it's safe to say that $750M is the absolute floor as of now. Avatar is a dead man walking.

Remaining to be seen: Will it cross $800M? $900M? $1B is probably too optimistic, but it's not out of the question.

I think he was talking about domestic. The prequel numbers are for worldwide gross.

#1 is Avatar with $749M. That record is going to be absolutely demolished.

TFA will break the domestic record but China will determine if it breaks the worldwide record.

TFA should break $750MM no later than New Year's weekend.

HUGE weekend coming.

TFA declined only 27.6% from Wednesday to Thursday, grossing $27.6MM.

For comparision, Avatar declined 32.3% over the same period. Star Wars is holding in every bit as strong as Avatar, yet its daily grosses are 2.5x Avatar's.

$60MM+ Christmas day is in store.

I preordered on Apple tv. It's just so it will show up as soon as it is available. I know I'm going to buy it no matter what. I use the apple tv so my kids won't lose it or scratch it up.

I don't do pre-orders. I wait till the release the Epic Director's Cut with all the futures

It's at 813mm worldwide through Thursday. Seems like Saturday might be the day it crossss a billion, Sunday at the latest....so it will likely get there in around 10 days. And again without China.

By the way, if it does what's expected of it this weekend (somewhere around 325mm worldwide), it will already be knocking on the door of top 10 grosses all time, unadjusted. Could even get there if it gets to 350mm.

AMC Theaters before Noon in Sugarland are a little under $6!
