From Scott Lucas today:
Malcolm Moore (0-3, BB) has caught 17 games, most in the system (even including the AAA team which has played an extra week). He's thrown out 32% of opposing runners versus the league average of 23%. Teams that excel at catching runners tend to squelch attempts, and the 45 against Hub City are the league's fewest. An eight-game on-base streak has Moore up to .225/.337/.380, about a 105 OPS+.

While at Stanford, Moore made consistent contact, hit for power and drew plenty of walks. During his time in High-A the last two years, the lefty hitter has been overly aggressive, swung and missed much more often, been hopeless against non-fastballs and generated no pop against southpaws. He still produces high exit velocities when he does barrel balls, but that hasn't happened frequently enough.
Moore needs to produce at the plate because scouts have questioned his ability to stay behind it since high school. He's not very athletic or agile, though he has made some progress with his defense at Stanford and in pro ball and earns praise for his leadership skills. He still may not be more than a fringy receiver with arm strength to match, and first base and DH are his only other options.
