I just don't understand why he wouldn't be interested in a change in roles like that. Obviously his best asset is his bat. And when he's fielding at his best, you're getting slightly above average fielding at best. If I'm Seager and get asked if all I want to do is hit and get paid the same money, I'm telling the team hell yeah. Especially if it helps keep me from getting hurt so much.
If he's interested in stuff like making the HoF he would want to stick at SS as long as possible. The bar is infinitely higher for a 1B and there's no way he'd clear it. As a SS he's got a good shot at it if he can stay healthy and put up 3-4 more years like what he has done in Texas so far.
For comparison, Seager put up 6.2 WAR last year hitting .271/.373/.487 with 21 HRs and 50 RBIs in just over 100 games.
Pete Alonso hit .272/.347/.524 with 38 HRs and 126 RBIs and put up 3.3 WAR playing all 162.
Seager would be JAG at 1st, but as a SS he has a chance to accumulate some big WAR numbers due to the lucrative positional adjustment and the fact that his defense there has helped him accumulate dWAR while even GG 1B usually get negative dWAR totals. In fact, in the example above with Alonso and Seager, the oWAR is actually pretty similar, but the overall is wildly different because of the dWAR credit given to Seager.
