And just one game below .500!

Again I hate to say this, but if we were to replace Leiter with someone who could give you more consistent outings we might be cooking.

Leiter is basically a right handed MacKenzie Gore. They basically had the exact same numbers prior to the last start. He's also hella cheap. His salary is like $800k. Keep investing in him. He's got the stuff to be an upper tier starter and his K/BB ratio continues to improve year over year. He just needs to figure out how to avoid the one blowup inning.

Wait another year and see if he takes a step forward

It's just tough because I feel like we're giving games away with him on the bump right now even though I agree that waiting is the best option.

It is, but we don't really have any other viable options.

Taking the Series against a real good team hopefully will do wonders for their confidence.

I'm really glad the Rangers didn't give up on Josh Jung when I was ready to do so.

Jung has proven he can play and be a very good hitter, he just needs to stay healthy. I also like what Zeke has provided us this year as a platoon player. He did the same thing 3 years ago filling in for Seager at SS when he was on IR for over a month that year.

I think it's becoming increasingly obvious that Duran's value is as an everyday player. His hitting goes in the toilet when he sits too much. He's just not cut out to be a once a week player. When he plays often, he hits.

So, do you move Zeke to the outfield once Smith comes back? If you get Smith hitting and Zeke's absolute cannon of an arm in the outfield you are on to something. Maybe move Langford to CF, Nimmo to Left and Zeke in right?

Seems like they are pretty clear that Langford isn't playing CF. If he was, I think Carter would be down getting things worked out in AAA. I'm honestly not sure if Smith has a spot when he's ready. He was very bad to start the year. Helman may stick over him to be RH CF.

That's a tough call…they could move Smith to OF and not touch Zeke. But really it depends on Smith's hitting because before he went down, he was BAD

Zeke has earned the right to be the everyday second baseman.

I think he's a better outfielder. With his speed and arm ability I just think he could help more there if we have to option.

Langford to CF is pretty much off the table, except occasionally. They're worried too much about injuries (justifiably so). I have to disagree that Duran is better in the OF than at 2B, or SS for that matter, I think he's a very solid infielder….and if he hits, so much the better. JMO

If Duran keeps up like he has been, Josh Smith's days are numbered. Not an earthshattering realization but Duran is the hot hand right now. Maybe Josh Smith was feeling the meningitis and couldn't shake it and will come back around. I hope so. I like both players right now, but that is subjclect to change due to how they perform.

I'm not sure I've understood the continual love for Josh Smith. I definitely think his days are numbered, or should be, if Zeke continues to perform.

Zeke and Josh Smith will always be linked due to being in the Gallo trade and both fitting that similar role of maybe a starter/maybe a good bench bat. What's funny, is that since 2023, one has been good and the other cheeks every year.

By OPS+
Zeke:
2023: 110 (filled in a ton for Seager)
2024: 80
2025: 64
2026: 135

Smith:
2023: 76
2024: 114 (Silver Slugger)
2025: 106
2026: 70

The difference between Zeke and Smith is that Zeke has quite a bit more upside to his game. More power, better arm, faster, etc.

To me the 2024 and 2025 numbers for Zeke are lack of playing time. Smith, I think can be very valuable if he's playing every day as well, which to me is why you consider putting one of them in the outfield

Josh Smith is nothing more than a utility guy off the bench.

Zeke has shown he's a bonified major league player.

Disagree on Smith. With both of them the more AB's the better they are.

Smith:

Those stat tables are both for Duran. Not sure how anyone that watched Smith fade severely last year could think he gets better with more at-bats. It's the opposite with him. His only chance to stay in the bigs should be as a utility/bench player. There's no way he should be taking starting reps from anyone.

I pasted the ones for Zeke twice. Apologies, but Smith's are close to the same. In 2023 that was one of the complaints in Zeke was that he faded. I think that if Smith is healthy you need to figure out a way to have them both in the lineup as they both need AB's to be effective. I have always liked the energy that Zeke plays with and wondered why Bochy did not let him get the AB's. Having said that if you can only chose 1 of them I'd go with Zeke all the time as he is an all out baller, imo.

I'm not sure what Langford has proved at the big league level other than he will miss significant time for phantom injuries every single year

Only way at the moment is if Carter is injured, which would be more than believable.

This guys has been lighting it up in the minors this year and just debuted in AAA. I wonder if he could be an option for the pen later this year. He's 25, so it's not like you're throwing a super young kid in the middle of a playoff chase.

Career numbers are decent but looks like he's figured something out this year.
