Good Lord. Breggy was a critical piece of this golden era in Astros history. Best 3B we've ever had, 2-time World Series champion, and I'd say top 10 all time Astro. Dude was nails.

Top 10 eh? Thats actually a good debate.

1. Altuve
2. Biggio
3. Bagwell
4. Nolan Ryan
5. Jimmy Wynn
6. Yordan Alvarez
7. Billy Wagner
8. Lance Berkman
9. Roy Oswalt
10. Cesar Cedeno

I could easily be convinced that Bregman belongs on that list

I'd argue that Verlander should be on that list in addition to Jose Cruz. Others to consider would be Joe Niekro, Mike Scott, and Larry Dierker. Does Bregman break into the top 15?

Well it really depends on how you're defining top 10 - Raw talent? Career contributions? IDK if there is an easier answer.

On any list I'd say Altuve #1, Biggio #2, Bagwell #3, but then it gets hazy.

We should set up some minimum games played or games pitched and go from there.

Breggy played here almost a decade, was a very key part of our only 2 championships. He's in the top 10 in my opinion. I think Altuve is a clear #1 and Breggy is somewhere around 8-10.

Yeah and nothing Bregman did this past season moves him up those rankings besides the Dodger walk off that didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things

Are you talking about all time?

1. Jeter - 158
2. Posada - 125
3. B Williams - 121
4. Justice - 112
5. Manny - 111
6. Altuve - 105
7. Molina - 104
8. Tino Martiniez & Breggy - 99

Basically the Yankees dynasty plus Manny are all that is ahead of Altuve.

You guys may be right about Bregman, but I guess there's recency bias involved here for me.

Dude got a good offer, he and his agent shined on it and then you immediately start thinking about what you're missing out on and the only thing that cycles through my mind for the past 12 months are a s*** ton of infield pop-ups in crucial situations and GIDP. Bregman had that one hot stretch that I can recall this past season, but was largely garbage and is on wrong side of 30.

He isn't worth what we offered at this point and certainly won't be worth what he eventually gets.

Also, strictly from an analytics standpoint....the offensive contribution from the corner infield this coming season should be significantly improved assuming a drop from Bregman to Paredes, but a massive jump by inputting Walker at 1st.

Probably not many people my age here so most never saw him. Larry Dierker definitely belongs. In the majors at 17, played on some horrendous teams but won 137 games, pitched a no hitter, first 20 game winner, great broadcaster and Astros manager. He was absolutely a horse.

Jim Wynn would have hit who knows how many HR playing in the current band box. When he played the dimensions of the dome were 340 down the lines, 390 in the alleys and 406 to center.

A while back I was going through the notes app in my phone and deleting old ones when I came across one that was typed out at 2:44am on a Friday night in 2018 and it just said "Chris Truby".

To this day I have no idea why that existed.

Oh I'd fully agree on Dierker.

The guy who is missing from the list who an old scout I grew-up learning from would talk about was J.R. Richard...insisted that Richard would be mentioned among the greats in the game had the stroke not ended his career very prematurely.

I had a very similar thing happen several years ago where I had a draft to a group of buddies from 2015 that simply said "Glen Davis and Terry Puhl runnin' a train on Jordan Schaefer's Mom" and I still have NO idea what the context was and assume I was drunk AF and ranting.

Only because we fans build up guys that show any modicum of success into the next great thing. The long list of letdowns just proves how difficult MLB really is.

JRR was the right handed Randy Johnson of his time.
People who never saw him just cannot fathom how scary he was in the early years when he really had no control.

J.R. Richard vs. Reggie Jackson at the 1980 All-Star game with Rod Carew 3B and Johnny Bench catching.

Jr whiffs him, but the real highlight is the pitch at 2:10 where JR makes Reggie look like a straight up *****.
