Had a feeling that this was gonna be a case of Italian journalists stirring **** up. I've also read the Vlahovic already has plans to join Juventus.

To me, it would appear the Italians are the worst about spreading transfer rumors but I could be wrong. Then English are pretty bad as well.

Yep. Di Marzio now trying to claim that we are looking at RW Dejan Kulusevski as an alternative. That link makes absolutely no sense. While he is a good young player a)he doesn't play the same position as Vlahovic and b) he plays the same spot as Saka.

Athletic did a piece on what would potentially happen if Eddie leaves on a free this summer...

Summary:
  • Eddie's contract expires next summer. Looking likely he will leave.
  • Normally would be free transfer but in Eddie's case, Arsenal will receive some funds.
  • If Eddie joins another English club in the summer, Arsenal will be due compensation with both Arsenal and the new club agreeing to the compensation value.
  • If compensation fee can't be agreed, it goes to the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) to determine a fee.
  • Fee determined by costs of developing a player, the status of the two clubs (Arsenal and buyer), player's age, registration fees, length of time we had him, first team appearances, international appearances etc.
  • If Arsenal can demonstrate Palace were willing to pay 10m last summer, that will also be used to determine compensation fee.
  • Example used by Danny Ings when Liverpool got him from Burnley as a free agent. PFCC determined Liverpool pay Burnley 6.5m with 1.5m in appearance add-ons with a 20% sell on fee of any profit made on him. Overall Burnley got around 10m for Ings.
  • Nketiah could be around a similar compensation to Ings based on his status as senior player/international appearances etc. But not guaranteed as each case is different
  • If Nketiah moves abroad, FIFA would determine fee. Arsenal would automatically be entitled to training compensation. The idea is that the buying club pays a fee roughly the same it would cost for them to develop the player.
  • Although clubs generally receive less for a foreign transfer rather than a domestic transfer.
  • Arsenal would most likely prefer a domestic transfer and being able to agree a fee with the buying club rather than leaving it up to the uncertainty of the PFCC

A late goal tied it up.

Kola got taken out of Bosnia game. Really bad tackle.

Odegaard & Norway took a massive blow with a 0-0 draw to Latvia. I thought Odegaard played pretty well. Set up some chances and had won of his own cleared off the line. They were missing Haaland and thus not great finishing in this one

How long do you want to ignore this user?
When you say "cleared off the line" do you mean "offside teammate took goal away from him"?
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nah not this time. Though they did have one goal taken away for offside. I want Norway in the WC, but they're gonna have to get some help I'm afraid

Would rather see him stay but given some of the issues that have seemed to go down between he and Arteta, I could see something happen. Guys on the gunners reddit are throwing around 70-100m which there is no way OM could afford even with Kamara thrown in as make weight.

He's got 2.5 years left at Arsenal. If they want him, its gonna cost they're record fee by quite a bit.

I think Arsenal will be folding him in next year.

Like I said, I would rather see him stay. Make White, Gabi & Saliba a 3 man rotation with Holding as the #4. Would be extra important if we land European competitions next season.
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed. And that seems to be the plan from the way things look. I don't think they'll give Chambers a new contract which leaves you with those 4 above + Mari for one more year.
chjoak
How long do you want to ignore this user?
For some reason I thought we extended Chambers a year or so ago. Guess we are gonna let him walk this summer. Not a big loss. Mari needs to be sold. I am sure there is a smaller club in Spain that would be interested. Think he would fit the playing style in Spain better anyway. Sell him cheap or trade him for a prospect.
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I did too, but I guess that was Holding. I just don't see them giving Chambers another contract. Its crazy that he is only 26. I think he is decent cover at a couple of spots. Mari does need to get sold or released.

2022 Expiring Contracts are:
Chambers
Nketiah
Elneny
Kolasinac
Lacazette

I really could only see them offering Laca maybe a 1 year extension and I don't think he'd take it even if offered. The rest at this point are bench players, some of them barely.

I've heard rumor that we would offer Laca an extension but I think his agent has said that he plans to leave. His holdup play will be missed but can be replaced.

I would kind of like to see us re-sign Eddie. He probably never amounts to much but I would like to see how he plays in the new 4-4-2 plus extending his contract increases our opportunity to get a decent return when we do sell.

I don't know that anyone knows exactly. Outside of a couple preseason games, Arteta has refused to play him. Didn't even register him for Europa (where most expected him to get minutes) and then didn't loan him until Jan. There were also several semi cryptic shots taken by Saliba in social media. Just seems that the relationship didn't get off on the right foot and many think that Arteta doesn't rate him.

I'd sell him in Jan if he wants to bounce. Not like he is really playing anyway. Need to see if we can find a replacement for Laca this window anyway. So PEA, New guy & Laca can hold down the fort until the summer.

Arteta seems to want to keep everyone, but I would definitely sell/let Nketiah go. Get whatever we can for him.

I'd send Balogun on loan to a Championship side as soon as possible. As soon as Auba is back from Afcon if possible.

Then we have to sign a new Striker in the summer.

I'd let Eddie go if the price is right. Otherwise he stays and leaves on a "free" in the summer. I put it in quotes because I posted something at the top of this page from the Athletic suggesting that we likely get 10m from whomever signs him in the summer because of his age and being an academy grad. So unless we can get atleast 10m in Jan, I would keep him.

Balogun needs a loan in Jan and probably all of next season. Rumors that Middlesborough want him in Jan.

Laca I would keep. Not gonna get more than 10m but he would be hard to replace in Jan.

I would look for a ST in Jan if you can find the right deal. I posted before about Arthur Cabral from Basel. Not playing in a great league but he is scoring 1.25 goals per 90. To me he looks like a taller (6'1"), stronger Laca with better finishing. He's rumored to be available for under 20m. If you can pry him away in Jan, I would do it in a heartbeat. The other more expensive option that barely fits our age profile but would fit very well as a Laca replacement... En-Nesryi from Sevilla. Like Cabral he is a bigger, stronger Laca. The biggest issue I see with him is that he will be at AFCON and is currently dealing with a nagging muscle injury.

During AFCON, I would give Martinelli a shot at ST. He's not getting minutes at LW right now and assuming we stay in a 4-4-2 for the foreseeable future, he looks to me like a perfect fit to take over PEA's role when his contract expires. Think we need to give him a shot now and see if he can contribute in that role next season and if not loan him somewhere that will give him a shot at ST and tons of minutes.

Renato Sanches, Denis Zakaria, or Tyler Adams, I would be excited to see any of these coming into this midfield.
chjoak
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Zakaria & Sanches make the most sense for our MF. Pretty sure the Adams link is recycled from this summer when he was being looked at for our RB spot. Chances are if he was brought in now it would be as competition for Tomi.

Sanches next to Partey would be money but I think Zakaria is the more versatile option because it allows us to always have a #6 / defensive #8 on the field. Think Adams could fill a similar role just not sure if Arteta sees that.

With Zakaria we also have the added disadvantage that there are atleast 5-6 teams (several with CL football) that are looking to sign him this summer.

I don't disagree but my understanding is that Adams has been playing almost exclusively in midfield for Leipzig, and that's where Arsenal sees him, and at 22 he is thought to have a high ceiling. I think he is considered versatile though and would also serve as a backup RB option.

Renato Sanches links have been heating up the last couple of days and I've seen a couple journos claim that Lille are looking for 25m euro. If that is remotely true we need to be making a move quickly.

Leipzig fan here. My radar went off. Adams plays at RB sometimes. It happened a lot more last year under Nagelsmann but happens some now under Marsch. It typically happens as part of a substitution and/or change in formation and usually it's the case where he'll start at mid and then switch to RB.

So are we going to bunker today and play on the counter or go guns blazing attack? I gotta think our best chance is to grab 1 or 2 on the counter and hang on
Strangely Attractive
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't know, I think since we have been playing decently as of late and Liverpool have only won 1 in their last 5 we may go with the back 4 and 2 striker look we've deployed recently. Our back 4 has been good defensively and this is how I think I would set up.

If Tierney and Tavares are both in the lineup, that would indicate to me that Tierney is the left side of a back 3 and Tavares is the LWB, and we're looking to counter.

I could definitely see it going either way.
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think it'll be a 4-4-2 and we'll come out attacking and trying to get something early like we have been.
