Big rumor today that Odegaard is back on the menu. Not sure how I feel about it. I liked him, but I'm not sold on him being what we need to fix the creation problems we have

I'd take him in a heartbeat as he's better than anything else we have. He sees passes nobody else in the squad does, and then, you know, actually tries to make them rather than turn around and pass it backwards.

Given Madrid's current situation, I would love for Arsenal to bully them a little bit and make a good bid now, maybe even with a "take it or leave it" ultimatum attached, but this is Arsenal, there's plenty of weeks before the deadline to waste first.

I've seen some rumors/suggestions that we may be able to get him for 35-40m euro now (or at end of the window) vs the 60m that was quoted at the beginning of the window. If we are choosing between he and Maddison, I take Odegaard. Not 100% convinced he is the best option but I think he is likely better than Maddison and given his age and the suggested price we could probably sell him for a big profit in 3-4 years.

Now if I was going ideal scenario, my pick would be Christopher Nkunku. Year older then Odegaard and year younger than Maddison. More positionally diverse and significantly more athletic then either. Can play W, AM and even 8/8.5 very effectively. Has even played ST for Leipzig. He is rumored to cost 20-25m euro and his per 90 stats are better then both.

Not sure if legit or tabloid nonsense but if we can offload Eddie and Laca/PEA I would be 100% on board.

Won't be easy given his salary and age. I honestly would be fine keeping him and either letting his contract run out or offering a 1yr extension in Jan if he is playing well. Don't see us adding a ST this window (despite all the rumors) unless we are able to move one of Laca or PEA.

He isn't a terrible player but he has shown for several years now that it is difficult for him to consistently shine in the EPL. He is old enough that he isn't gonna change or get better so for me it is time to make a change. There is risk with making a change but I don't see us getting better with him so we need to explore options for players that have the chance to make us better.

Even if you put aside the massive potential for a costly mistake every few games, you can't ignore the fact that in the EPL, Xhaka is a marked man. He is consistently carded for infractions that would be a foul for just about any other player. Any time you start him, you have the potential to finish with 10 men and Arteta hasn't been quick enough about subbing players on a yellow when they start picking up additional fouls.

All good points, but I love his reliability and passion. He puts in a solid (if not reckless) performance every match he is called upon. He is so competitive. Several of our more talented players lack the competitive edge. We need more people on the pitch who have passion.

Probably a long shot, but if we could somehow land Bruno, Martinez and Odegaard, man

I'm hoping the Xhaka extension talk is posturing to get Roma to make a move. He's not the worst player, but it seems like Arteta is always tempted to play him when available, so I don't want it to be an option.

I think he had to play Xhaka last year when he could. There wasn't anyone better to replace him.

I don't think Xhaka is the solution and for his sake as well as to force us to move on, I would prefer he is sold. That said, I am ok bringing him back (would rather not extend on stupid wages) as long as we target a young (U23) player (Bruno, Kamara, Camavinga, etc...) that can push and hopefully replace him as a starter before end of season.

Agree and please God can we give Willian away for the same reason.
If he takes a single minute away from Saka, Pepe, Martinelli, Smith Rowe, or whoever else we get in the 10 role, I will lose my mind.
