I refuse to eat Zaxby'a when there's a perfectly good Laynes around the corner.

A Mojo there would be bad news for my wallet and waistline!

We used to eat there (Zaxby's) once a month or so. It has never been what I would call packed. Weird location for a fast-food place, not easy in and out. Chicken was good and I like their fries, but not on our usual list.

The quality and service at that Zaxby's has gone way downhill post 2020. Used to be a regular. Now I never go.

I don't really go to Zaxby's either, but every time I've been to that Layne's it was awful.

We haven't noticed much of a difference between that one and the others in town. I still prefer it to Cane's.

You aren't missing much, it dramatically pales in comparison to what it once was. They made a big expansion push in DFW approximately 6-7 years ago and most of the locations have since closed. Easily the worst wings that I've had in my life, and the pizza isn't much better.

I've knowingly got food poisoning one time in my life. It was last year from that Laynes. Ate it for lunch and thought the chicken was extra juicy and something was up. Sure enough I'm puking my guts out a couple hours later.

So moral of the story, if you want some of best chicken tenders you've ever had, cook 'em medium rare and as a bonus you get to lose a little weight while you're at it.

Often times we associate our sickness with a certain meal but determining the true cause is much more difficult than we like to think. Unless you and several others who had different meal histories all got sick, it could have been plenty of other things you ate that week.

I'm a medical professional and I approve your message….and have experienced it myself. You seldom really know the etiology of your GI bug, even if you think you do.

I'm certainly guilty of it myself. My wife and I went to Zoner's and I put away a decent bit of buffalo chicken pizza and she had something else. No later than 10 minutes after getting home and I was throwing every last bite up. It hit her about an hour later. It probably wasn't from Zoner's but I'll never not associate the two and we never went back. There were other, conscious reasons we didn't return but I'm not so sure the illness didn't have a subconscious effect.

If I hadn't thought it was suspect as I was eating it, I'd agree. Seems like too many signs point to it being some suspect chicken. Perfectly fine all day, ate some chicken tenders, thought it tasted funny and looked undercooked, couple hours later I'm puking for about 3 hours straight and that evening I felt better and no issues the next day. Not a Dr though.

Thinking about it though it happened once before when I was in college with a chick fil a sandwich. I used to sell Advocare and after that night I couldn't eat CFA for a month and if someone was drinking a Spark around me right now I'd still get nauseous.

Yeah. Sometimes you know.

Ex-gf and I once went to a fancy restaurant for a birthday dinner.

We had eaten the same thing during the day and shared our main courses and sides at dinner but she got smoked salmon for an appetizer. I didn't have that.

By 1am or so she was violently ill. All the way until probably 9am or so. I had to make a pallet on the bathroom floor for her she was so sick and put her hair in a scrunchie.

It was the salmon.

Varsity Grillhouse already revamping menu. Not sure that's a good sign. It was pretty dead in there when we went Monday night.

*Still haven't been*

But there seems to be a bit of an identity crisis. They're a sponsor on TexAgs radio now and in the spot Nuno says it's like a sports bar, but classy, but a place to go to watch the games on the TVs, which from what I've been told there's only one.

Been 3-4 times now to grab a beer at the bar and get food to go. I think the food is pretty dang good. Maybe a bit more than some places but not wildly off base.

Bar is kinda small but staff if super friendly.

Yes, the lack of patrons is concerning…

They've taken the fried mushrooms appetizer off the menu which was really good, and are now offering cheap weekly lunch and dinner specials for $8.99 (I think that's what I heard on the radio promo). Maybe I'm reading into things, but that screams "we need more business quickly"!

Thirsty Thursday at Varsity. $2 off draft and BOGO1/2 burgers. Only time I've gone. I feel the inside is pretty stale to watch games and only 2 TVs (I think) in the main dining area.

the last 2 times I went to Laynes. The fries were pieces and cold. The last time I went in and made comment on the fries, the clerk just said that is what we had and went about her job. I said thanks and left. Will never go back.

I just checked the photos on their FB page. Looks like they've installed a bunch of TVs in the main dining room.

I went there for lunch not long after they opened. Food was good, but pricey. The stuffed mushrooms were fantastic. It was the main reason I was considering going back. Now that it's off the menu, I'm not so sure.

That's too bad. They were one of the places I liked taking my kids because they get too distracted by screens.

Their burgers any better these days? I tried them a few months ago and the burger was salty, thin, and overcooked. Moo-yah had a better burger at the time.

Shawarma Factory is closing. Not surprised given how empty it's been when I pick up takeout but I was hoping they would make it.
