The old body shop on the north east corner of Tabor and Hwy 6 in Bryan has been torn down and they're doing dirt work. Sign out front says new gas station/convenience store.

A majority of Bryan city council members express no opposition to rezoning land north of the Premiere movie complex to build 150 luxury apartments.

But final action was delayed.

That followed more than one hour of discussion involving council members, the landowner, and opponents who included neighboring homeowners and the presidents of the Austin's Colony and Greenbriar homeowners associations.

The opponents favored keeping current zoning for retail development.

The landowner, Wayne Courreges III, said he wants to buy additional land surrounding his proposed apartment complex to develop what he calls "top retail".

Courreges said he preferred building three story apartment buildings containing one and two bedroom units versus a four story hotel, which he is allowed to do with current zoning.

What is the timeline for development of that corner of Boyett and University where the gas station/convenience store used to be?

I haven't seen any movement there in a long time.

A certain poster that is great with photoshop had offered some renderings when it was first announced, but I believe those got removed.

Two years ago it was announced it may be the site of student housing, but I have been searching and do not see anything since. No developer has said anything about plans and I do not see anything submitted to the city for the address.

I assume Austin's Colony is upset because of potential traffic issues. Austins Colony Pkwy is a substantial road and 150 residences doesn't seem like it would add that much traffic at AC Pkwy and Boonville. The busy retail with back door access to AC Pkwy could actually cause more traffic.

Zip In at S College and Villa Maria was torn down today. Not sure if there's plans for that spot yet, or just clearing the lot.

Where are all the people to tell us the economy sucks because some below average chain restaurants and Big Lots closed their BCS locations?

True, but their focus was on California and midwest stores for now. They will still have over 1,000 stores open.

Sure, but they initially planned on closing 40 stores (June), now it is 315 stores.

And then there is a recent regulatory filing that said there's a "significant likelihood" of a potential default on a 2022 loan and that the company has "substantial doubt" about the company's ability to remain operational.
