Yes. I believe that Israel has recently started using DNA tests to define it. Since all of the DNA testing companies can back this up with data (they list Ashkenazi Jews separately), I would think it makes it a valid determination. I doubt it was successful, but I have read that it was one factor that helped start the hippie movement.
