After listening to the Joe Rogan podcast about magic mushrooms I believe there is something to psilocybin and other natural psychedelics like peyote. Something like 60 to 80 percent of atheists in one experiment that took psilocybin believed in a higher being afterwards. Also, they gave them to terminally ill patients with cancer and almost all of them came away feeling better about what was happening to them afterwards. Maybe they saw the afterlife or something?

Do some research, group of scientists go to central and South America to do Ayahausca. They all have the same trip. 40+ people all see the same and experience the same thing. 40 people would describe seeing the same film differently or all have different reactions while getting drunk. I'm pretty familiar. Not sure if I would call them conspiracy theories in the usual sense. More like hypotheses. I think the Great Filter is a viable answer to the Fermi Paradox. Two other explanations, besides a Unique Earth scenario:
1. "Ships passing in the night." There have been advanced, interstellar travel and colonization-capable civilizations in the universe in the past, and there will be more in the future (possibly us), but there happens to be none right now because the ones in the past have gone extinct. Somewhat ties to the Great Filter reasoning.
2. They're out there and watching us. They just want nothing to do with us.
