Heading to Vegas at the end of the month for Foreigner and Scorpions! I've seen Foreigner lots and we really just added them as they happen to be there the Friday night. I've never seen Scorpions despite being a pretty big fan of them so I'm excited for this long weekend.

You didn't go to Monsters of Rock at Rice Stadium?

I wish. I was 16 at the time and didn't have money or permission.

Man, you could have ridden with us! We would have brought you along!

Kingdom Come was pretty good for what they were.

Metallica was still a relative unknown to the mainstream and was too heavy to get much AirPlay on regular radio outside of late night shows like "Metal Shop" on Saturday nights at midnight on KLOL in Houston.

They were great. Master of Puppets had just come out and they played a good bit of it from what I remember.

Dokken had to follow Metallica. Tough deal! They had sound issues. They lost Lynch's guitar through the PA part of the way through the set and I think Don's vocals as well. They got the guitar back but not the vocals so Mick, Jeff, and George played Mr. Scary while they tended to the vocal feed.

At some point Don and George got into a shouting match onstage and George tossed his Skeleton guitar (the one from the In My Dreams and Dream Warriors videos). It landed face down and slid across the stage.

Scorpions were next. It was getting dark by then. They were good but basically play everything exactly like the album. Too much variation from the album can be bad, but they were like The Cars. Just like the album.

VH closed. Great set although I can't recall the last time I listened to OU812.

There was a bit of a mini riot between Dokken and the Scorpions on the floor and in the lower deck on stage left. It got a little crazy. We had moved to the floor for Dokken and had to retreat.

MOP came out in 1986, 2+ years before this show.. On this tour in '88, they had already started playing harvestor of sorrow (though not at this gig for some reason), and AJFA came out just 3 months after this show.

Also, MOP was almost double platinum by early 1988 (before AJFA came out), and by 1988 their 3 albums had sold 4 million copies, so I wouldn't say they were relatively unknown.. well maybe 'relative' to now, or 1992, but double/triple platinum, and opening for ozzy in 1986, they were pretty known, in the rock/metal world.
Even before the black album was released, AJFA went like 4-5x platinum, '88-'90

for reminiscing purposes;
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/metallica/1988/rice-stadium-houston-tx-1bd6d574.html

Funny kiddoc says what he does; my similar story was me missing metallica coming to astrodome in '92 with GnR because I was 12 and scared to ask my parents.

But I manned up and when they came through town at age 14 in '94 I got permission and money to go!

"Well, ackshually…"

Yeah, I missed the date on that, but I just recall Hetfield yelling out to the crowd "do you have our album with all the little crosses on the cover???"

They didn't get much AirPlay though. Too heavy for Houston radio during prime hours.

Thought I'd already posted this - maybe I did earlier and missed it.

Tix to see Jerry Cantrell @the Ryman in Nashville next month.

Not other shows planned currently but may hit the DL/Poison/Crue show in Arlington this summer.

I already regret skipping the Sevendust show tonight in Dallas. Love that F'ing band. One of the last shows I saw live pre-Covid and I bought a couple of their 'live' concerts during covid from the NoCap shows.
Take the trash out staff.

Saw Adelita's Way at The Rise. Second time seeing the band, first time at the Rise. Had a flippin awesome time. Love those smaller venues, got to meet Rick at the merch table. Not a big deal, but he was cool, and my first "celebrity" unless you count texas country artists at the Chicken.

Rise Rooftop?

I'm interested in a show there but wasn't sure about the venue.

Pretty good?

Yeah it's smallish, bigger than scout bar but not as big as Warehouse. Parking was pretty painless, too, which was a big plus. Acoustics weren't that great for the opening band but were on point for AW, so I assume that's band sound engineers. Wasn't a night for paying attention to drink prices, but I assume they were expensive

nice little place, but my God, it echoes in there, and it gets super loud. I'd suggest wearing ear plugs here. I never have that issue at Warehouse Live

Sweet Moses Sevendust put on a great show last night in Houston (as usual). After seeing these guys for over the last 20 years, LJ and the boys still bring it every time. Great banter and always humble. Got up front like a 40 year old high schooler for the encore of b*tch & face to face

Great pics! Glad you had a great time. I normally don't get up to the rail, and I did the VIP soundcheck access but I found myself about 4 rows back during the show here in Dallas. I missed them the last couple times through so it's been a few years. They sounded great and were spot on all night.

Yeaaassss!!!! Can't wait, been since the Fear of a Blank Planet tour that I've seen them. Can't wait for the new record. Saw them many times back in the day, used to be on their street team during the In Absentia and Deadwing years. Will most likely only be hitting the Dallas show but we shall see, might travel to others.

The OKC show is the one ticket I held onto. The wording of their release is very confusing. It's saying verified resale for some dates but I don't really get that because surely many people requested refunds so those should go back through the regular Ticketmaster market place.

I also tried to register for the new Vegas date but the site kept glitching.

Re-living some younger days and going to Colorado in April for a Face To Face/ Descendents/Jawbreaker/Samiam show. This will be the first show I've been to in 3 years since I saw Lucero in New Orleans.
