Volbeat and Ghost last night in Denver. Man they both killed it. Ghost definitely benefits from having a larger arena
They now have fire and explosions, which are always good.

They've come a long way since I saw them at boulder theater and ogden theater just ~8 years ago.

You know, I've seen them about 8 times. And I'd say about 3 of those had issues. Beaumont where Maynard didn't sing at all during the patient (sick), woodlands pit where Maynard didn't sing a few songs (sick).. etc etc.

Now I'm seeing both of these;

I love Tool. I'm a huge fan. And when they are on, they are on. But, I can say the same for Opeth, and the 6 times I've seen them, it was flawless. every. time.
Tool.. not so much in my experience, and apparently others as of late.

I saw them last night in SA. This was my 3rd time to see them and it was by far their best show of the 3. Here's my thougts on the show:

- Maynard. Wow. Maynard sounded fantastic. Much better than the previous two shows. I have to wonder if having to take two years off touring due to covid actually was a good thing for his voice. He belted out multiple times and brought it big time! He was also very engaged (wasn't as much in 15, I think when I saw them). I also wonder if the two years of being away didn't reinvigorate Maynard a bit.

- I thought Adam was fantastic. I did read that article and saw no issues. Adam is generally very stoic but he was also fairly animated (for Adam).

- Justin is a consistent badass and backbone.

- There's a reason I saved Danny for last. Jesus what an animal, esp considering the guy is almost 60 years old. He works his ass off and plays so hard. You really can't express in words what the guy is until you see him in person.

- Their presentation and light show is so off the charts. Just fantastic presentation.

As I said, this was clearly my favorite of my 3 shows (2006 & 2015).

Saw Tool for the first time ever in San Antonio last night, and thought it was fantastic. The first song - Fear Inoculum - Maynard's lyrics sounded muffled/quiet, which was perhaps the intent, but the rest of the show was spot on.

Agree, I meant to post that there were a few kinks they worked out with vocals but after that got fixed, it was great.

Also on this note, just curious how long their (Tool's) set was? Going Friday in Houston, seen them every show in Houston since the 2nd leg of the Aenima tour in 1998.

They started at 7:30. I didn't care for them. Their sound quality was not good so it was just kinda noise, to me. It's def not something to knock yourself out to make sure you're early. Yeah, Tool came on a little after 8:45, but you need to make sure you're in your seat by 8:45.

You're in for a treat. A total different experience than the Aenima tour, but total musical nirvana. Enjoy!

Was just looking back at old tool setlists.
I'm 1 song away from seeing every song on lateralus and 10k days; ticks and leeches and intension.

Looks like they didn't throw those 2 in quite as much back in those eras.

I wonder if they will ever play any albums in full. APC did back in the day, so I know maynard seems to be up for the idea.

They went on about 8:50 and were done about 11:15 so a little over 2 hours with an intermission.

Enjoy. As I said, it was by far their best show, for me. Maynard was engaged and seems to be having fun this tour.

I was bummed I didn't hear Right in Two, but other than that, fantastic set list.

Was my first time hearing Opiate and it was insane.

Note: since they are alternating, Houston should get Sober instead of Optiate and Right in Two instead of The Patient.

I gotta say, the highlight for me was Pu***** Man, was a mind blower. They start out with a translucent curtain in front of them which is really cool and then around the middle of Pu****, it starts to roll away.

Pu**** was certainly a highlight for me.

And yes, Maynard does the scream on The Grudge. Now, he does it more of a yell now instead of a scream, for obvious reasons, but he held it a long time and it was glorious.

Edit - It's funny that Push It is censored. lol
Echoes97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'd MUCH, MUCH rather hear Opiate than Sober, but hey I'm not going to cry about it. Seems like from the set lists I've seen that they're doing a lot of older stuff plus FI of course. Lateralus and 10K Days seemed to be left out for the most part. I haven't heard them do Opiate in a good while though, cool that they're playing it this tour.

I've actually only seen sober once - in beaumont lol. They opened with it. 2002, I drove from college station I remember, all alone! It was just a few months before I met my now wife.

Opiate has fallen in the setlist of 2 shows I've seen I think.

Schism and stinkfist are the only two stalwarts.. Seen them at all 7 shows. Surprisingly, I've picked up parabol/parabola at 4 shows. Other than that, it's the usuals. I've seen lateralus songs by far the most, I think I counted about 32 times I've seen a song from that album. Average of 4.5 per show. Including the album closer trilogy twice.

Only seen 3 off Undertow and 2 off opiate

I always thought so too. But man, see my comments on Ghost above. They are headed to Tool/Muse territory in terms of this.

The Tool show last night in SA is erasing years of me lurking on this site to actually post something. Agree that the sound was a little off at the beginning but seemed to get corrected pretty quickly. Thought it was my ears at first (still ringing as I type this)! Don't know how many times I've seen them live, but this is my first since 2016 and was not disappointed. Opiate was a nice throwback and the FI material sounded great live. Visuals were incredible as always, Maynard sounded good, Justin did his thing, Adam actually moved, and Danny...what can I say!

29 yr old tshirt from my second time seeing them in '93 came out of retirement for this one. Hate to miss the Houston show but go if you have a chance.

Love to see the folks in here that have caught TOOL with great experiences such as mine in Vegas.

Just watched the last two nights of Billy Strings live from the Cap. Two more to go. I cannot stress enough to go see him/them anywhere you can on the April Texas run in HOU, ATX, DAL. Haven't been this excited about a band in twenty years.

Houston setlist was hit and miss.

Highlights of the show for me were Pneuma, Invincible, and Culling Voices from their new stuff. Pu**** and The Grudge both awesome as well. Descending and especially Hooker with a ***** were way the **** too loud and you couldn't make out anything but noise. If sound guys would try to dial it in to 9 or 9.5 instead of 11, these shows would sound way better.

Sad that I didn't get to hear even one of Vicarious, Lateralus, Forty Six and Two, Right in Two, Schism, Parabola, Jambi, or Aenema. I don't see how a setlist skips every single one of these.

when They dedicate an hour to 5 songs on new album, I can see why other normal songs get skipped.

This is why I said it wasn't a top 20 show of all time yet one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen.

Imagine a 20 song setlist that included:

"H" (my all time favorite)
"Stinkfist"
"Prison Sex"
"Schism"
"Vicarious"
"Eulogy"
"Lateralus"
"/Enema"

etc. I mean, those are all just incredible compositions to leave out of your live performances.

That's an hour right there, and only one song off 2 most recent.
Unfortunately they are never gonna have a list like that again. Long songs is a double edged sword.
Every time they put out an album they will represent it, then have one or two off previous albums. With long songs it isn't doesn't leave many slots.

I struggle with this with opeth. They always want to close with deliverance. Well there's 15 minutes.
