Kansas in Beaumont next month. Their last studio album is really good.
Was hoping to catch Kansas in Chicago, and later this year Chicago in Kansas, but alas, the stars didn't align.

But there is a chance to see Kansas in Kansas this year.

Yep, had tix for the Houston show now rescheduled for October. Sucks, but it's life. If you have never seen him, let me be clear, GO. He is arguably near or at the top of all living players, and seeing his band and him perform is sheer musical magic.

I can't remember the last time I actually listened to any of his albums, but you don't even have to know the songs to be awestruck. He is on another planet from most musicians, and makes it look easy. Yes, there will be wankery, but also amazing melodies, passages, etc. Highly recommend!

I'll see if I can get tickets for October. I've only seen him once back when he was with David Lee Roth. Him and Sheehan together was a shred fest.

I had tickets to G3 with Vai, Satriani, and Johnson and was sicker than a dog that day and couldn't go.

Just picked up Jimmy Eat World tickets. Interested to see the new venue. It looks a lot like Revention from the pictures I've seen, and that's my favorite venue in Houston, so hoping it's nice.
I've heard good things about 713 Music Hall. I'll get a reserved ticket soon for the JEW show.

Revention was great, Smart Financial before was terrible due to the crowd.
Gonna hit white oak and whitewater this year.
Saw Mastodon at Smart Financial recently, and I didn't care for the venue. Maybe it was just an odd pairing, but reserved seating all over was lame. I know folks wanna be comfortable.

Did they sound like crap?

I saw them with Opeth in Dec, and god it was just a wall of incomprehensible noise.

Then Opeth comes on and it's the best damn sounding tones I've ever heard. So I know it wasn't the venue, which is brand new.

I've been to exactly 1 show at Smart and swore I'd never go back. Easily worst venue I've been to in my concert-going life. Just think layout and spread of seating is terrible.

Went to Whiskey Myers at 713 back in November. Great place to see a show.

That popped up when I was booking Billy Strings tickets for April and that was a quick NOPE for me

Metallica and Foo Fighters headlining Boston Calling during Memorial Day weekend. Full lineup drops tomorrow. This is more enticing than that Napa Valley Festival

I remember struggling to distinguish the vocals and lead guitar in the mix so basically yeah. Opeth did sound better now that I think of it and perhaps not as loud overall? They put on a good show with solid banter so props to them even though I wasn't very familiar with their music.

First time I saw Mastodon was several years ago at Moody Theater, and it was way better between the sound and how much longer they played. I felt cheated a bit at the Sugar Land show and likely won't return to that venue.

Eric Johnson played at Hurricane Harrys in 97. I was there. It also at a time when Harrys had briefly lost
their liquor license so it was BYOB. They sold cups and ice.
Brought in a cooler full of beer. Good times!

Think I'm going to go try and catch Deftones in Vegas in April at the cosmo.

May pickup tickets for Sevendust in Houston at HOB, and Clutch is missing Houston but playing the Aztec in SA in March.

Turns out I'm nearly 40 and still living in high school.

I hope 2022 is better than the last two years. Went from 25 shows in 2019 to 7 and 8 the last two years. Terrible. Looking to expand my comfort zone and see bands Ive never seen.

So far...

George Strait - the new Moody Arena
Miranda and Little Big Town - Woodlands
Mark Chesnutt - Backyard
Leppard/Crue - Houston (probably wont happen because Vince)
Stryper - Cedar Park
Cannons - Antones
Tx Birthday Bash - Navasota

I can't seem to like Mastadon. I want to, because individually they are talented and great mysicians, and like their style. But as a whole there songs just do not resonate with me. I can see where Opeth would be an amazing soundscape live with a quality audio

Just got back to Aggieland from Vegas. Aside from the absolute beating that is Nevada compared to Texas, TOOL blew my freaking head off.

If they are near you definitely go see them. The contrarian in Maynard not wanting to play more than 12 songs and none of the all time classics other than "Sober" was the only drawback but I knew that going in.

It's the only thing keeping it out of a top 15 show I've ever been to but the sonic and visual experience was like no other aside from maybe Phish. Just make sure to consider earplugs as I still can't hear. My pictures suck but I didn't want to be that guy Maynard was calling out. And Danny Carey is just an absolute legend.

Tool in Vegas was supposed to be vax card or negative test. Ended up just being masks required to get in. Nobody was wearing them once in the arena.

I have tickets to all three Billy Texas shows in April as stated in the OP. 2 of the 3 venues are requiring vax card or negative test as of now. Just fake it. Super easy. It's a can't miss show(s).

A lot of it at time of ticket sale simply the venues/artists covering their ass in case national policies change so that they don't have to potentially give refunds.

Mask required -> Vaccine required = refund options should be given
Vaccine required -> just mask required = no need to refund

They did, and that was something they added right before the show, long after I had bought the tickets. It's incredibly easy to make a fake test result sheet, so I'm told. But they weren't exactly scrutinizing everything, you could have shown them a post it note either the word "negative" on it and they probably would have let you in.

Elton John was great this past weekend, just saw that he tested positive so the dallas shows are postponed again.

Which was better, the show or the endless popcorn?

The show. Tool is like going to a high end steak house. You know what you are going to get. And you will get it. Excellence…but no surprises.

Never heard of this guy but he's a trip. Glad he got to see TOOL and Dead and Co. recently. It appears he shot a long video from the Anaheim show:

You know, I've seen them about 8 times. And I'd say about 3 of those had issues. Beaumont where Maynard didn't sing at all during the patient (sick), woodlands pit where Maynard didn't sing a few songs (sick).. etc etc.

Now I'm seeing both of these;

I love Tool. I'm a huge fan. And when they are on, they are on. But, I can say the same for Opeth, and the 6 times I've seen them, it was flawless. every. time.
Tool.. not so much in my experience, and apparently others as of late.

I would say 90%+ of concerts are way too loud. And sound quality suffers because of the volume.
