Last saw Billy Joel about 20'years ago. Tonight at Minute Maid Park at over 70 years old, he was fantastic! No more jumping off the piano, but voice as good as ever, played ZZ Top, Springsteen and Led Zeppelin covers as well as over 20 songs of his own. Seeing him at MSG is still a bucket list show, but he was great tonight.

Y'all may not have heard of this guy, but I saw Drake Milligan at Billy Bob's tonight. That kid is really, really good. It'll be fun to see where his career goes.

Yes! He still rocks it, even at his age. We loved the show.

A good friend and Ag treated his son, another of our Ag friends, and me to the show at the Woodlands last night with Ann Wilson, Jeff Beck, and ZZ Top.

Had a really good time.

Ann Wilson and band opened. They were great. Ann is 72 and not in shape to run around the stage but she still has the pipes to sing those songs. Her band was very good and I would have been happy to own any of the lovely guitars they played. They were sweet.

Jeff Beck and band were next. Him, bass player, drummer, and keys

Rhonda Smith is the name of his bass player. She's a freak. Really good. Tore it up. We were stunned by her abilities.

His drummer is a gal named Annika Niles. She was also fantastic. Been playing since she was a small child and she killed it.

I don't know any of Beck's stuff besides one song. He was really good. Easy to see how Eric Johnson thinks highly of him and was influenced by him. I read an interview with someone recently who was touring with Hendrix back in the day (can't remember who) and they said Hendrix would invite them to his hotel room to listen to records. Once he said "come listen to this new Jeff Beck record and let's see if we can figure out what he is doing here!"

Pretty big praise there. I've heard about him my whole life but just now saw him. He was good, but it is an odd choice to open for ZZ Top.

Used his thumb for a pick and was tearing it up at 78 years old. Even used a Strat with a reverse headstock to pull out Little Wing!

ZZ Top was good but they came on later than expected and only played 1:15 or so. Left out numerous songs I would have liked to have heard.

Beck came out and played on their encores with them.

I could have done without a couple of their later songs and instead had them play Manic Mechanic and Heard It On The X and some others they skipped. Tush? Not played. They sounded good though.

Jeff Beck joined them for their encores and traded solos with Billy Gibbons. That was fun.

Pretty sure he wrote everything on his album, but I'm not 100% sure. He covered a lot of great other songs in the show like Mama Tried, Devil Woman, and Pretty Woman and did a great job with each. What has he recorded that others wrote? Genuinely curious.

What time did they start? I saw anticipated start time of 9:25 on the website. I might have gone, but the Woodlands is a long drive for me. With one less opener, they might have started at 8 pm which would have been cool.

Dusty Hill sang Tush, so I doubt we hear that one by ZZ Top again. I'm sure Billy likes it, but its too high for him.

Enjoyed Scorpions and Thundermother in San Antonio but it felt like the ac quit about half thru and it got stuffy and hot! They both sounded great though.

And wow has the homeless problem gotten bad in San Antonio.

Brett Beavers, Terry McBride, Bob DiPiero to name a few. Drake is listed as co-writer, but these all stars take it to another level. Kid is good, can't wait to see what he has on tap in the years to come.

Was thinking the same thing. Haven't seen them since Dusty passed, so don't know if Elwood can sing or not. I would think the set list will lean heavy on the songs sung by Billy since he can't hit the notes Dusty could.

Then Manic Mechanic should have still been in play!

Probably not going to hear Mexican Blackbird live. They would get canceled if some people heard it.

Blue Jean Blues would have been nice.

Scorps tonight for me. Wasn't too bummed when Whitesnake had to drop off the tour because I assumed Scorpions would play longer to make up for that. But checking the setlists it seems like that didn't happen, which is a disappointment.

Buddy said a chick metal band from Sweden or somewhere opened for them in Houston and they were really good!

Thundermother

Not to be confused with Thunder*****, a band from seattle and played Baba O'Riley with pearl jam the other night!

With the scorps playing denver in two days, that's two bands with the name Thunder in it playing at Ball arena within a week.

And that's your live music random trivia for the day.

I haven't seen PJ live in 10+ years, but that's a pretty great set especially all the covers and some deep cut gems like Faithfull, Thin Air, and Present Tense. I understand some folks not being thrilled if they only like the first few albums and radio hits, but PJ doesn't cater to those fans.

Even Flow and Better Man are piss break songs for me, and I don't understand the need to play both so often. Maybe one or the other but not both. Alive should be on every set and probably Given to Fly as well. but getting something else from Ten or Vs. besides the other two would be an improvement. Something like Once, Porch, Garden, Go, Daughter, or Dissident would likely appeal to hardcore and more casual fans.

I've been wanting to see Quicksand for a while now since they reunited. Not a fan of Warehouse Live, but that might be my only chance to see them for a while.

I concur, Dissident or Once would be a much better option than Better Man

I was really hoping for once, why go, garden or release. All played at one point in the 12 show run. Actually they played every track on ten in those 12 shows, the only album fully represented.

I really wanted to go to that but couldn't get a group to commit.

If I had to guess you'll get Brandi Carlile joining Dave and Tim on stage, at the very least for Come Tomorrow and maybe some other stuff.

Don't miss Trampled by Turtles. And have a hell of a time.

Shows were great.

Highlight was Caamp singing Alone with Trampled by Turtles. Similar to the version on Spotify from Red Rocks. Brandi crushed a cover of Creep. She have joined Dave and Tim but the show was cut short, well because of this.

Scorpions were a blast tonight. Maybe I'm losing my hearing (I definitely am) but it sounded to me like they weren't tuned down at all which would be insane for Klaus at 74 to sing that **** in the original key. I'm guessing they're probably tuned down a half step at least. But it certainly was hard for me to sing along at times so maybe they aren't tuned down at all.

Scorpions were fun! He sounded great! I agree that he didn't sound tuned down. I noticed him checking his monitor several times for words but I would do the same. Fun times! I love the way he talks.
Thunder Mother was definitely not Whitesnake (which I was extremely disappointed to miss!) but they were fun if not unpolished.
Know Your Enemy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We missed Thundermother. Wasn't my favorite setlist but a few of the new songs were actually pretty good. But when they played the classic stuff they still rocked hard. First saw them over 30 years ago. They don't move around as much but it's still a fun, if short, show. Klaus has always been one of the most underrated singers in rock in my opinion. Even if they are tuning down a little it's crazy how good he still sounds at his age.

Oh man.
Early morning in LA following the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at The Forum. 6 hours of music with a host of musicians I would love to name here but don't want clog up this post.
It was simply awesome.
I most enjoyed Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee backed first by Dave Grohl, then Chad Smith, and finally Danny Carey.
Pink did really well on the songs she sang, one of which was sharing vocals with Dave on "The Pretender."

So many drummers. It was truly an experience.
