I used to live in the DC area, in Fairfax County actually, where Alexandria is, I've been to the Raleigh area in NC numerous times to visit relatives, been to Charlotte NC on business several times, worked on a six month project in the Atlanta area - in Alpharetta north of ATL, spent a weekend in Charleston SC, been all over KY, TN, LA, and AR on business, used to live in southern LA... There are certainly trees and forests everywhere, but I don't recall a lot of businesses in the middle of the woods by themselves with no visible roads leading to them.
I know we're supposed to assume that the characters approach places like Patty's fuel truck business or the Terminus depot, or the funeral home "from behind" and they just didn't show an angle that proves that roads or other nearby businesses exist; just thought it was an interesting observation.
