I hate the Aussies too, but at least the overall US has 41 medals to their 19
Only Americans count total medals.
Breakdown of the gold medal race:
US and Australia go head to head with chances for gold in the women's 800 m free (Titmus v. Ledecky), the women's 200 IM (American Douglass, Australian McKeown, and Canadian McIntosh all have chances here), and the women's 4 x 100 medley relay (should be US v. Australia), and the mixed medley relay (Great Britain is also in the mix).
Bobby Finke could win the men's 1500 m; I don't think Australia has a contender.
Neither is favored in the women's 50, but that race is a total crap shoot. The men's 100 fly will likely be won by Hungary.
Bottom line, we need 4 golds from the final 8 races, and a shutout for Australia. It could happen, but it's a tall order.
