Born and Raised in Louisiana. Mother is Swedish. Word on the street is that Sweden/Swedish connections came through some big $ to encourage him to compete for Sweden where the plan had been the US.

uhhh Karch only did beach late in his career.

He was indoor at UCLA winning 3 ncaa indoor titles and then for team USA in 1984 and 1988 Gold medals indoor and two other world championships in non olympic years. Only in 1996 did he do beach volleyball in the olympics.

So he has 7 indoor national or international titles and one beach as a player.

Yes, and he won gold the first ever time it was official in the Olympics. I was 15 and it made an impression on me. Have enjoyed watching it ever since.

Sinjin Smith and Soklos were also fun to watch.

Kiraly and Sinjin were playing together before it was in the Olympics and only split when Karch joined the USMNT indoor team full-time.
Also used to play Kings of the Beach on our commodore.
