The overall gold medal race now stands China 16, USA 13.

They took their first "surprise" gold of the Games in women's tennis today after the world number one, who has won three straight majors on the Paris Olympic courts, irritatingly lost to a Chinese athlete who went on to win gold.

In swimming, the Americans trail Australia 7-6, with one last chance to win an individual men's gold tomorrow to avoid being shut out for the competition for what I think would be the first time ever. The race may come down to the final event, the women's 4 x 100 medley relay.

This is the most live action I recall nbc showing. In the past they wouldn't show any live events for the premium sports. Would save them for prime time first runs. Pretty sure everything has been available to watch live.

Europe vs Asia timezone makes a big difference since they can still get a lot of eyeballs for events that are live midday here vs overnight/early morning. And most of all, we are cord cutting streaming world now. Holding back for traditional primetime tv just doesn't make sense anymore; pretty much forces their hand.

Newspaper? Used to have the AM Chronicle delivered to my driveway between 4:30/5:00 AM everyday. No bark there. Nowadays, my AM Chronicle is delivered from 12:30/1:00 AM. This forces you read the "morning" newspaper online. What a joke.

It's not a woke thing at all fans just like to see relays.

That said I'd rather add more gender specific relays over mixed ones.

The mixed relay is great. It was interesting in the last Olympics that one team started with the girl and they never recovered. Now, they all start with the guys.

What a gold medal match!

American takes first and third sets, Korean takes 2nd and 4th, they both go perfect 3 10s in the 5th set.

Korean wins it on the first extra arrow,10 vs. 9 (5 mm closer)
