It should give the rights to MLB to fire 10% of umps every year. Too much garbage.

We can crap on Boras all we want, but he still works for the players. Maybe I'm being completely naive, but just as much blame lies on the players too. They are trying to squeeze every penny out of these clubs.

I love Bregman and wish him well, but the more players get "screwed" by their agents the better.

If Bregs wanted to stay he would be here. Altuve is a Boras client and it gone done.

Bregman is gonna go somewhere and turn into a s***head when he blows for the 1st 6 weeks of the season and the fans have zero tolerance for it. He'll start having to answer tough questions about his involvement in the cheating scandal and I could see him falling apart, Anthony Rendon style.

Honestly, Bregman and Tucker were two of my least favorite "stars" in the history of this team and I feel like the organization may have a clearer future without them here.

Rendon didn't love baseball. Say what you will about Alex but he loves ball. He's also not injury prone like Rendon. I do think he needs to find a place he can hit successfully like Fenway and he'd be wise to choose fit over $.

Yeah….. I don't think Alex and Rendon have anythjng in common aside from they both play third base. Couldn't be more different as people and ballplayers.

Bregs will age and slide just like every ball play ever but I think it's crazy to think he'll end up like Rendon.

Rendon is motivated by money and only money. When he got injured and his paycheck still came rolling in there was nothing motiving him.

Bregman will grind it out and play until he has to be drug off the field but motivation will never be an issue for him.

That's the one thing I'll always respect about him. He may have holes in his swing but he'll do whatever he can to contribute. We saw that in 2024 with him playing through the bone spurs.

I think they both have radar ears and Bregman has stayed protected from it b/c the team has always picked him up whereas Rendon fell apart.

I'm willing to bet when his new fanbase starts letting him have it, he'll start getting into it with fans on X, etc.

Thanks Alex for the memories from a long time Colt 45's and Astro's fan. Best of luck to wherever you land.

Boras needs to choke on a chicken bone.

His job is to get his client a contract. He burns as many bridges as he builds.

I have to believe that there are GMs that just refuse to deal with him.

Good Lord. Breggy was a critical piece of this golden era in Astros history. Best 3B we've ever had, 2-time World Series champion, and I'd say top 10 all time Astro. Dude was nails.

Now that altuve has his last contract and all of boras's clients on the team are gonna finish out their contracts and move on to free agency or retirement, he probably doesn't care about lighting the bridge on fire. If I were Crane I wouldn't want to hear from him ever again.

Unfortunately you have to deal with him, he has too many clients. That said, you know what his shenanigans are and the team was smart to move on when it appeared talks were going nowhere.

100%, and it sounds like Dana did just that. I was worried he'd let Breggy's decision hold us hostage and we'd miss out on some players. Good on Dana for moving on.

I love Bregman and wish he stayed. He's been such a key part of the best 7 year stretch in Astros history and maybe even Houston sports history.

I'm sad he's leaving

If you see Bregman, Tucker and CJ Stroud out for dinner one night, do you say hi or just start throwing punches?

I think we saw the last best season for Bregman, the numbers he put up in a contract year. He'll still produce, but wouldn't want to have 3 more years at $25-30mm when he's 33.

Stros need one more OFer can't trust Chas, you can live with Meyers in the 9 spot.

Really need Diaz and Pena to step up in '25.

Pitching wise we are going to be waiting on the return from major surgery for Garcia, Javier, and Urquidy. And I guess France too.

McCullers just needs to retire.

I'm skeptical at a $200m deal. Feels like more bs from Boras.

Quote:

Alex Bregman is likely the premier position player on the free-agent market this winter, with a wide array of suitors still expected to pursue the two-time champion and two-time All-Star. But the leader of the Astros' dynasty may need to wait until 2025 to sign his next nine-figure deal.

The multi-team pursuit of Bregman is currently complicated by the trade market of fellow third baseman Nolan Arenado, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. Arenado, 34, is three years older than Bregman, and his offensive decline is more precipitous as both players exit their respective primes at the plate. But the economics of Arenado's contract could make him an appealing value alternative to Bregman, whose deal "could approach or exceed $200 million," per Rosenth

Buy-low opportunity

They need that as not much room under the lux tax threshold at this point, right?

Otherwise I would expect a Santander or Teoscar would be too expensive

They're trying to move Pressly and/or Caratini to free up some space. If they're unsuccessful, yeah, they'll likely stick to the garbage bin.

I like Caratini but it makes sense. Salazar would move into the backup catcher role and Singleton is the lefty backup first base/pinch hit guy.

Pressly asked for a trade last year so I'm a bit surprised he hasn't been moved. I think they're having trouble finding a team he'll approve (he has a NTC) that will take on the salary. I still expect him to be moved eventually.

I like Bregman and what he did for this organization, but it never felt like he was coming back to the Astros. Astros were wise to move on and not be a pawn in Boras' negotiations with other teams.

When it comes to leadership and talent, Jose Abreu had plenty of each. But neither can withstand Father Time. Bregman won't fall off a cliff next year, but he'll never live up to the contract he signs, and the leadership can only offset that so much.
MaxPower

Moving Caratini alone doesn't look like enough money to do much. Not many free agents sign for $6M these days. Even a guy like Grichuk will likely get $8-10M.

Cots has us 5 under the tax. Caratini moving would give us 11. Just enough to sign someone.

Move Pressly and Caratini and we're looking at almost $25M, right? That would net us someone pretty good (Santander, Teoscar) if we can do it before they sign elsewhere.

Yes, but I don't think we get into that market. You want to leave around 5 M to cover and mistakes in calculations or save some room to add a few cheap minor league type pickups along the way.

I still think our OF answer is a trade for someone who's in arb which means more affordable.

I know Pressly isn't that great but do we even have any decent arms in the bullpen without him, other than Hader and Abreu?
