Out of curiosity why are mods anonymous? I've never noticed it before but seems like a bad policy.

Ironic since this thread is the most GB thing I've seen in a while

Ok, let's put today's AC thread to the side for a second as it's purpose was only to complain about threads/posts being removed. We typically remove that type of stuff and ask posters to direct questions regarding moderation to moderator@texags.com. Now that said, AC might have a valid complaint so let's try to get down to that...

What specific threads/posts have been removed that has everyone upset?

I usually hang out on AO or baseball but I'm occasionally over here.

I'm not on TexAgs nearly as much as I once was.

She's not a moderator and has never been a moderator. With that, can someone fill me in on what's going on? Thank you.

First off, this is me talking as a poster and not a sponsor. So, I can see why you guys moderate the way you do, and I have a really thick skin from being in retail so I get bent out of shape less than a lot of people would anyways, but what about having a public... Mod liason... Or something like that that can come through and answer these questions and maybe even be a bit like an auditor or something that we can be able to interact with? Even I question some of the stuff done, and luckily for me I do have a line to Logan to be able to get clarification on things. I don't bug him unless it's important, but it is really nice having that avenue.

So, maybe someone who is a regular poster that doesn't rock the boat much? Let them have a little extra access on things to help provide some insight. I think it would also benefit you guys being able to have someone that can give you an idea of where the ob stands on certain things as well. This board gets less drama than some of the others I get on... *Cough*politics*cough* but I've noticed some things too that make me scratch my head a bit.

Every single one of them that wasn't straight up pron, but I don't think that ever happens on the OB anyways, so yeah... all of them.

You asked for personal information that I did not want posted on a public message board . You continued to ask for personal information after I stated I wasn't going to answer that. Hell I even pm'ed you willing to discuss it. Why you got banned as a result is not on me, but on whomever that moderated was.

I have no beef with you. You and gigem02 are the ones who keep *****ing about me. Now that Brandon has told you that I'm not a mod, can you leave me alone as to the reason why you have been banned?

Three main reasons:

1. I want moderators to be able to participate on the forums as normal posters without the social burden of being a moderator.

2. I want moderators to moderate based on policy and not based community pressure.

3. I want moderators to be free on real world retribution by disgruntled community members.

I'm not sure with regards to the Charpie posts and everything they were talking about on ACs deleted thread, but a little while ago I was responding to a thread about an illegal alian getting a DUI and it was nuked before I could post it. No idea why.

That and the thread today. My complaint was that thread being nuked.

I'm sure some other users can tell you the rest.

OK - Outdoors folks.
I took a few actions this morning. Had a lunch, took some meetings, and am just getting back to this issue on the Outdoors.

WatchOle is correct.
The OP wrote in and asked that the Buck/Doe thread be removed b/c it seemed to cause too much turmoil.

I apologized that the post had created such a needless stir, but WE ALWAYS honor a request from an OP to remove a thread.

Then, based on what I can see from the mod log, other moderators removed threads that were simply complaint threads about that thread removal.

I apologize that I didn't foresee any problem there should have been more tuned in. As always, you are free to write in (as one of you did) to ask for an explanation or just generally complain. I field quite a few of those every day. Happy to explain mod actions.

We got a thread about a thread about a thread.

OB should be free to do whatever as long no porn or personal info is posted.

Those are fair reasons but I propose two things:

1) rather than deleting a thread, if the mod isn't happy then just lock it and post an actually informative note why it was locked. Not some one sentence BS.

2) if a specific board is very unhappy with the moderation within, then maybe it's time for a new moderator?

There was one of a funny picture involving a hunter and a buck that wouldn't leave the vicinty of the doe that was just shot. Can't remember who the OP was.
The thread you are referring to was titled "Funny Hunting Picture" and it's my understanding that the OP asked us to remove it.

Amen to what EyeGuy said. I think a liaison would be a great start, but I don't think mods should be anonymous.

I caught a three day ban a while back where a poster referred to someone or something (not specific to a TA poster) as a "front hole". It was topical at the time because that's when the "front hole" term was in the news. One of the mods took a huge offense to it and went completely overboard threatening posters for using the phrase at all. I honestly think they read something In a way that it wasn't intended. Instead of admitting they overreacted, have a chuckle at their expense and building a little rapport with the posters, they double downed on their actions by banning many posters(I know at least 4) for questioning them on it, and then eventually nuked the thread. It was a HUGE overreach of the authority given to them and they didn't have to answer for it at all. Continued things like that, as well as AC's thread, are why I don't come here nearly as much as I used to.

ETA - the "Front hole" thread I am referring to was on the Poli board, but I think standards should be the same.

Ban someone who rarely posts here because troll posters complain about bans they attribute to said person who the owner has stated is not and has never been a mod. Sounds brave. The "victims" of these purported bans sound like libtard snowflakes.

Kind of hard to cite a specific thread that doesn't exist anymore. Call me crazy on that, but i don't keep screen shots of threads.

Frankly, I'm not sure why threads are being wholesale deleted when they could simply just be locked and offending posts edited with the reason for their edit and to contact the moderator email for more information. That in itself would likely be helpful in understanding why an action was taken, rather than an absence of an explanation and these types of threads popping up every so often.

I think I will see a thread on the politics board locked, cleaned up, and a mod warning put in the thread OP. On the Outdoors board, I'll just see full posts or threads deleted.

Just my 2 cents.
