In all honesty though, the thing that makes the OB great is the wealth of knowledge on all kinds of topics, and the fact that we were largely self-moderated. There a several posters that annoy me with the vast majority of their posts, but I still read them because occasionally I still learn something. And sometimes we butt heads, and that's ok. I'll still be here reading and providing content and such when I can.

Brandon - maybe something to consider would be raising the number of flags necessary to alert a mod on a post and thus result in a deletion/ban (double it, triple it?). That way we would be allowed to police ourselves at a higher level before a mod steps in.

I'll admit, I've posted far less in the last year than since I joined. Part of the is the result of a kid and job change, but a lot of it it has to do with the lack of the campfire feel and ball busting that used to go on. We used to be able to self-police, and run those out that weren't here seriously. If we can return to that, I see things improving and growing. If not, I see the OB dying. But those of us that are friends IRL will continue on and continue our friendships, OB or not. But I'd prefer that the OB stick around in perpetuity.

And I'll mention one poster that hasn't posted in a few years: Terlingua.

Many of y'all won't know who I'm talking about. Many of y'all will. But he was one of the revered OG OB posters, and those of us that remember him know where we came from and where we are now. His loss is permanent, but most of us are a big family here, and have each other's backs.

I don't know that self moderation is going to work anymore. Once upon a time, the GB was very well self moderated. People actually listened to each other if they were told something was over the line.

These days, even on the less traveled boards, you try and tell someone their post isn't cool you'll more likely be met with a "**** you" or other sass instead of them taking a look at what they posted and why it might not be appropriate.

No one is lying. Well, except maybe you about not liking thin skinned folks
