Republicans caved on NFA stuff. Tax is gone but registry paperwork remains. Such crap. They should've told the Parliamentarian to pound sand.

The Republicans should go out to the bar and then home for a nice night of sleep...

While the Dems bloviate during their "debate time"....

This is a bad bill.

Counter argument, it cuts in painful spots for those whose job is based on elections and our electorate has come to expect too much of the government teet.

Sadly, the budget cuts aren't deep enough to balance out tax cuts, but there are still good solid parts of it.

Make everything individual, one-item bills so we can actually see "the good solid parts". This, as-is, is pure, unadulterated, bull**** .

FWIW...

I saw an interview with Tuberville this week and he said it "would be a photo finish" at the end. Also, said Parlimentarian "office" has only eliminated 10-15%. Before that tidbit, he said 2/3 of BBB were good for the American people with remaining 1/3 being argued back and forth between states and competing components.

NYT has a running list of those sections removed, which have been reworded and re-submitted, etc.

Okay. So as I think I understand it, today's vote was to move the bill forward for consideration? And now that it's moving forward, this is where they spend 15 hours reading it (and then 10 more for debate)?

So the solar and wind folks need massive government subsidies to make it profitable, and they are pitching a fit.

Bring back coal!!!!! That's what India and China use.

You know what? Good Schumer. The only bad thing is that that should be standard for every bill.

any republican who votes no at this stage is just helping the leftists and marxists destroy the United States

either we pass the bill or there is the largest tax increase in the US history, the stock market tanks, the economy comes to a halt, and there are massive GOP losses in 2026

but sure, for the dummies across the country who believe they can get 51 Republican votes by cutting spending by a trillion dollars in some fantasy land- good luck with that!

Not cutting spending also leads to bold. Just a matter of when. Those of us in the here and now can selfishly kick the can down the road a bit further but later generations are f'ed.

This vote is a procedural advancement towards what's commonly called a vote-a-rama, where any senator can offer amendments and each one is individually voted on. Usually it's the last opportunity for a party out of power to make the other party publicly own the more contentious sections of the bill and later on becomes campaign video fodder.

Anyways, the Senate clerk will read the 940 pages of the bill text for the next 10-15 hours, then the vote-a-rama happens, then a vote on final passage to send it back to the House who will then either accept all of the Senate changes (unlikely but maybe) or else they'll hold a Conference and the two chambers will reconcile he differences without the House having to individually recall committees to edit the bill and send it back to the senate (which would be weeks or months of additional time).

Trump wants the entire thing voted out of the Senate and jointly passed by the House to be on his desk to sign next Friday.

Agree / disagree. The can kicking is about over - it's going to blow up in the next 10-15 years, maybe less.

People voted for Trump and the Republicans in Congress partly/largely based on a pledge to reduce the deficits. This bill in the end doesn't do that or even come close.

You are right about this just kicks the can down the road although I doubt it is 10-15 years. I take 5 at most.

How much of this bill actually resembles what Trump wanted in the BBB? It will be even more interesting to see what is passed and signed.

I'm confused... why do the democrats get to demand that the whole bill have to be read aloud before voting? Not too many years ago, evil witch Nancy so boldly proclaimed that their bill had to be passed so that we could know what was inside.

That's a false choice.

Another option would be to keep the tax benefits in the bill and reduce federal spending in absolute dollars by 10%. No gimmicks or shell games... cut spending by 10%. Hell, I would even settle for 5%. Putting all my cards on table... you could probably even pin me down to just keep it flat in absolute dollars for the next 10 years with no increases.

The key point is to get control of spending and stop this insane debt addiction.

The Republicans can do it. They have the majority in both chambers and the WH. Just have to show some courage and get it done.

This fellow has played his part to destroy jobs for americans by hiring H1Bs and offshoring. He shouldn't be talking.

On the other hand, my kid has an internship interview with Tesla tomorrow for their Austin office, I hope he gets the job.

He's just mad because he's not getting any of the handouts.

If his product is so great, why does it need to be subsidized?
